Job Description - Licensed Professional Engineer (Mechanical HVAC/Plumbing)


We are seeking a Registered Professional Engineer to lead the design and development of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems for commercial and industrial projects. This is a leadership-level role for an experienced engineer who thrives at the intersection of design, client interaction, and system selection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage engineering scope for projects in partnership with senior project managers and business leaders.

  • Perform and review detailed load calculations, energy simulations, and equipment selections using Trane Trace or equivalent software.

  • Conduct life-cycle cost analysis of system alternatives to ensure value-driven solutions.

  • Oversee and review design documents including duct sizing & routing, pipe sizing, air distribution layouts, and plumbing systems.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.

  • Interface with clients, negotiate project scope, and present design recommendations.

  • Coordinate with architects, electrical, structural, and civil engineers to integrate mechanical systems into project designs.

  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to mechanical engineers, Revit designers, and drafters.

  • Conduct field inspections, review installations, and ensure design intent is met.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Georgia — or currently licensed in another state and able to transfer.

  • 5–10+ years of experience in commercial/industrial HVAC and plumbing design.

  • Proficiency in Trane Trace 700/3D Plus, Carrier HAP, or other energy modeling tools.

  • Strong background in system selection, cost analysis, and energy modeling.

  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Excellent communication skills with proven client-facing experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in design-build environments.

  • Strong project leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Can translate engineering concepts into practical terms for non-technical audiences
