Job Description - Licensed School-Based Mental Health Float Clinician

Looking for a meaningful clinical role that offers variety, flexibility, and real impact? Join Effective School Solutions as a Float Clinician, where you’ll support students across multiple school communities while building diverse experience in school-based mental health.

We offer: School-Day Schedule (no evenings or weekends) | Light Summers (10 hr/wk for 5 weeks) | Competitive Pay & Benefits | Small Caseloads | A Collaborative Culture that values your growth and well-being.

About Effective School Solutions:
Effective School Solutions (ESS) is a leading provider of school-based mental health services for K–12 students. Serving over 6,000 students across 12 states, ESS brings the level of clinical care typically found in private practice settings directly into public schools. In response to the growing mental health needs of young people, ESS has expanded its offerings to include a full continuum of clinical programming, professional development, and consultative services for districts.

About the Role

As a Float Clinician, you’ll step in to provide coverage when primary clinicians are out—whether for a day, a week, or a longer leave—working with elementary, middle, and high school students. You’ll be based at a “home school” near Middletown and travel up to one hour to nearby districts as needed (with mileage reimbursement for longer trips).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy.

  • Deliver clinical interventions that support emotional and academic stability.

  • Engage families through programming and parent support groups.

  • Coordinate referrals and collaborate with school and ESS teams.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold professional standards.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and active clinical license (LMSW/LCSW, LPCA/LPC, or LMFTA/LMFT) in the state of service.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with children or adolescents facing behavioral or emotional challenges.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.

  • Experience collaborating with school districts preferred.

Why Join ESS

  • Make a direct impact on youth mental health.

  • Enjoy a consistent school-day schedule with generous time off and light summer hours.

  • Receive excellent supervision, training, and career growth opportunities.

  • Work in a supportive, mission-driven environment that values your input.

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.

Effective School Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, disability, or any other protected category.

Be part of the solution. Be part of ESS.
