Job Description - Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Diagnostic Imaging

The Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology Service is critical to the lifesaving work we do at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center, providing timely diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning of diseases in companion animals. As a Diagnostic Imaging technician, you’ll operate our computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines to obtain quality images for our radiologists and other board-certified specialists across the hospital.

Diagnostic Imaging technicians work together as a team to provide the highest quality care to our patients. While one technician is scanning and capturing images, another technician functions as a primary anesthetist and monitors the patient. Our technicians are excellent communicators and collaborators who work with multiple departments at AMC and coordinate multiple imaging procedures each day. We also occasionally get special visitors from local zoos and aquariums that require our advanced imaging services to better help the animals in their care.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional and compassionate care for our patients from admission through discharge

  • Provide anesthesia support and patient recovery for patients of all ASA levels undergoing diagnostic imaging

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Diagnostic Imaging modalities (CT and MRI) and anesthetic equipment

  • Communicate professionally and effectively to coordinate patient workflow across multiple departments

  • Ability to adhere to strict radiation and MRI safety protocols

  • Participation in educational and research projects

Qualifications

  • Must have NYS Veterinary Technician’s license

  • Candidates with experience in CT and MRI operation a plus, but willing to train the right candidate

  • A strong skill set in phlebotomy, catheter placement, anesthesia protocols, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative care is essential

  • Candidate must be able to work successfully both as part of a team and autonomously with the ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships

Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

  • Competitive salary

  • Generous sign-on bonus

  • Generous paid time off

  • Tuition assistance

  • 50% discount on veterinary care

  • Mentorship through the VTS process

  • Continuing education funds with rollover options

  • NYS Licensing fee reimbursement

  • Relocation reimbursement for qualified candidates who live outside the NYC metropolitan area

  • 403b matching

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • You may be eligible for The Public Loan Service Forgiveness Program as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit employer

Pay Range

$30 - $40 USD
