Position Summary
The radiation oncology nurse provides direct patient care in a busy outpatient Radiation Oncology Cancer Center located in Central Austin working under the supervision of the Site Manager and in close coordination with radiation oncologists, nurses, and clinical staff. This role supports patient intake, treatment preparation, and focused patient assessment within scope of practice, in-clinic procedures, documentation, and patient education throughout the course of radiation therapy. The Nurse serves as a key communicator between patients, providers, and the care team and plays an essential role in maintaining continuity of care, patient safety, and adherence to oncology-specific clinical and quality standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, compassionate communication, and a collaborative, patient-centered approach.

Qualifications
Current LVN license in the State of Texas, RN Preferred
Minimum of one year of clinical experience in an outpatient clinic, ambulatory care center, oncology setting, emergency department, or surgical environment preferred
Prior experience in oncology or radiation therapy preferred; urology experience not required
Ongoing participation in continuing education, including specialty-specific competencies as applicable
Ability to use sound clinical judgment and communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and healthcare professional
Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and strong teamwork skills in a fast-paced, patient-focused clinical environment
Essential Job Duties
Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring a respectful, safe, and supportive care environment
Assist with patient triage based on presenting symptoms, urgency, and established clinical protocols
Prepare exam rooms and assist with patient intake, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, and chief complaint documentation
Administer medications and injections, including vaccines, as ordered by providers
Assist providers with in-office procedures such as catheter changes, bladder instillations, and post-op care
Communicate diagnostic results (labs, imaging, pathology) to patients as directed by the provider.
Accurately document patient encounters, including symptoms, history of present illness, medications, allergies, and limited assessments within the nursing scope of practice
Relay treatment plans and instructions to patients and/or family members as directed by providers
Educate patients on pre- and post-procedure care, medications, and treatment expectations
Coordinate with scheduling and clinical staff regarding appointment needs and care flow
Coordinate patient follow-up care, including imaging, labs, referrals, or provider communications as directed
Utilize electronic health records (EHR) to accurately document and retrieve clinical and patient information
Monitor and restock medical supplies; ensure equipment is sanitized, functional, and ready for patient use
Ensure proper documentation and compliance with clinical protocols, quality initiatives, and regulatory requirements
Foster a culture of clinical excellence by sharing knowledge, supporting daily workflows, and assisting with onboarding of new staff in adherence to protocols and standards.
Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and provide age-appropriate, urology-specific care
Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to clinic policies and procedures
Perform all duties in accordance with LVN scope of practice and under appropriate clinical supervision as required by Texas Board of Nursing rules.

Occasional high-stress situations due to urgent patient needs or procedural support
Work Environment
Outpatient clinical setting with direct patient interaction
Frequent exposure to bodily fluids, bloodborne pathogens, and other potentially infectious materials
Exposure to common medical cleaning solutions and sharps
Fast-paced, collaborative team environment requiring multitasking and flexibility
Standard schedule Monday through Friday with no weekend or holiday shifts
Must comply with all clinic safety, privacy, and infection control protocols
