POSITION SUMMARY


As a Lifeguard at MedStar Solutions, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of patrons within our aquatic facilities. Responsibilities include vigilant surveillance, swift intervention in emergencies, policy enforcement, and effective communication with diverse populations. Successful candidates will demonstrate current lifeguard certification, proficient swimming skills, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure. This position may require travel to an event taking place outside of the Phoenix Metropolitan area.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Arrive prepared and on time and consistently demonstrate service excellence.

  • Proactively assists others and remains vigilant in observing swimming activities to ensure adherence to safety procedures and guidelines.

  • Observe swimmers and assess the area for safety issues and alert swimmers to improper activities or danger and enforce pool regulations and water safety policies.

  • Initiates aquatics emergency action plan when necessary.

  • Administers prompt and efficient basic life support care within the limits of licensure or certification and in accordance with approved protocols, as necessary.

  • Documents all aspects of patient condition and treatment.  

  • Completes any other required forms and documentation, as required.

  • Conducts regular inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipment is present, clean, and in proper working order.

  • Possesses knowledge of issued medical equipment and its proper use at all times.

  • In the absence of other qualified personnel, controls the patient’s surroundings in such a way as to minimize further danger.

  • Adhere to all FCC regulations when communicating via electronic communications equipment.

  • Attend all mandatory meetings as scheduled.

  • Communicates supplies and equipment used and restocks basic items to appropriate stock levels.

  • Completes all required company reports and logs, either by electronic devices or on paper as necessary.

  • Must meet and fulfill the qualifications, requirements, functions, and responsibilities of this job description, company policies and protocols.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Current lifeguard certification or prior lifeguard experience with current EMT or Paramedic certification.

  • Prior experience as a lifeguard or other water safety personnel.

  • Current CPR certification as established by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI).*

  • Required FEMA IS Certifications (IS-100.C, IS-200.C, IS-700.B, IS800.C, IS-905, IS-907)**

  • Current and valid state-issued driver’s license as per state regulations.

  • Proficient communication skills; ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and managers.

  • Basic writing skills for correspondence and reports, and the ability to present information in one-on-one and small group settings.

  • Must have reliable transportation to get to duty assignments without delays or special accommodation.


*CPR certification from other agencies will be recognized upon hire, however the applicant will be required to utilize AHA or ASHI upon future recertification.


**Applicants that have not completed the required FEMA certifications will still be processed. Any offer issued to the applicant is contingent on the successful completion of ALL FEMA certifications within 30 days of start date. FEMA certifications are required for employment and, therefore, compensation is not provided for time spent to obtain them.





PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • National EMS certification at the EMT level from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

  • Complete all tasks with attention to detail, regardless of size.

  • Demonstrate personal motivation and take ownership of job tasks and outcomes.

  • Prioritize a sense of urgency in all work performed.

  • Uphold professionalism and show respect towards patients, colleagues, emergency service providers, healthcare workers, and the public.



PHYSICAL DEMAND OF JOB


Standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time, in the sun or outdoor areas. Lifting or carrying of patients in and out of the water. Working with specialized equipment including floatation devices, oxygen masks and tubing, bandaging materials, etc. Visually assessing the safety and condition of the emergency scene and the patient, verbally communicating with patients, co-workers, medical personnel and the public either directly or indirectly via electronic communication equipment.



WORK ENVIRONMENT


In this dynamic role, you'll operate in diverse environments, adapting to specific situations that may expose you to a range of environmental conditions. These can encompass extreme heat or cold, encounters with hazardous materials, responding to electrical emergencies, outdoor settings, and unforeseen challenges brought about by inclement weather. Noise levels may vary, occasionally reaching high and potentially hazardous levels. In such instances, the use of ear protection or radio headsets may be required to mitigate noise and enhance communication. You may find yourself in environments with loud crowds, such as music festivals, necessitating the ability to navigate and perform effectively in these settings. The nature of the job requires flexibility and resilience to handle unexpected conditions and ensure effective responses in various situations.
