Job Description - Lifeguard Lead

 


JOB SUMMARY


The primary role of the Lifeguard Lead is to ensure the safety of visitors to Celebration Key while also ensuring rotations in portals (zones) are executed and operated in a timely and professional manner. The Lifeguard Lead will need to assess situations swiftly and make decisions about the safety of swimmers and serve in the capacity of rescue Boat Captain as required. This position will report to the Lifeguard Supervisor, Celebration Key.

The Carnival Grand Bahama Investments Limited (CGBIL), a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc, seeks a Lifeguard Lead.


 


The role will also play a critical role in the broader Carnival Corporation Global Ports and Destinations Development (GPDD) team. GPDD is responsible for the development and operations of our six existing Carnival-owned destinations in the Caribbean: Grand Turk (Turks and Caicos), Mahogany Bay (Roatan, Honduras), Puerta Maya (Cozumel, Mexico), Amber Cove (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic), Half Moon Cay (Little San Salvador, The Bahamas), and Princess Cays (Eleuthera, The Bahamas). GPDD is also responsible for the development and operations of Celebration Key, expected to open in July 2025. The 6 existing destinations are expected to welcome more than 6 million visitors in 2024, with that number expected to grow significantly once Celebration Key is opened, and they include a variety of world-leading amenities such as: pristine beaches, pools, swim-up bars, water activities, food and beverage, retail, and cultural exhibits.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  


The Lifeguard Lead is responsible for, but not limited to the following: 


 


·       Passing all necessary skills during the annual renewal of (SGE) license. These skills include CPR, First Aid Rescue and Emergency Management Systems (EMS).


·       Ensuring all lifeguard positions are set up correctly within the zone of operation.


·       Assist as a Rescue Boat Captain as required.


·       Maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the lifeguard swim areas at Celebration Key and make sure that safety procedures, guidelines and policies are followed.


·       Warning of unsafe activities and enforcing water safety policies and beach/pool regulations.


·       Providing First Aid in the event of injury, rescuing swimmers in danger or distress and administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or artificial respiration, if necessary.


·       Inspecting all beach/pool equipment, facilities, and water to make sure they are usable and safe.


·       Upholding environmental policies and procedures.


·       Assisting with cleaning equipment and facilities.


·       Opening and closing the beach/pool each day, depending on schedule and hours.


·       Cleaning the beach/pool at the end of a ship day according to the supervisor’s instructions.


·       Attending all meetings and training sessions provided by Celebration Key.


·       Participating in in-house service training sessions to maintain the skills needed to perform rescues.


·       Reporting all work-related incidents, injuries and illness, hazards and, any unsafe behaviors or conditions to the Lifeguard Supervisor.


·       Responsible for the transport of guarding equipment each morning and ensure they are returned at the end of each day.


·       Responsible for acting in a professional and safe manner always.


·       Maintaining good housekeeping standards to keep work areas clean and tidy.


·       Not intentionally or recklessly interfering with or minimizing anything provided in the interest of workers health and safety.


·       May be asked to perform miscellaneous job-related or non-job-related duties from time-to-time.


·       Taking reasonable care of own health and safety.


·       Assuming leadership position in groups to make executing tasks more effective.


·       Performs any other duties assigned by management. 


 


EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS


·       High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in lifeguarding preferred.


·       Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a lifeguard preferred, but not required.


·       Previous experience in a guest facing, customer service field.


 


SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS


·       Valid B Master Class Watercraft License


·       Strong knowledge of lifeguard techniques, water safety protocols, and emergency response procedures.


·       Excellent observation skills, physical fitness, and the ability to remain alert for extended periods.


·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on providing excellent guest service.


·       Strong leadership qualities to assist team members in the completion of assigned tasks.


·       Demonstrate to be reliable and resourceful when completing objectives.


·       Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.


·       Ability to pass a pre-employment practical skills test in the water.


·       Ability to work on weekends, holidays and evenings.


·       Swimming skills and comfort in all kinds of water conditions.


·       Ability to evaluate and judge the changing dynamics of people taking part in aquatic activities to immediately determine their strengths and weaknesses, and the threats to their safety.


·       In-depth knowledge of safety policies, on-site protocols, and operational procedures.


·       In-depth knowledge of techniques and methods for providing medical services in an emergency.


 


LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS 



  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests. 

  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers, and co-workers.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 


·       Must be physically fit.


·       Must have strong customer service skills.


·       Ability to work in an outdoor environment.


·       Ability to multi-task and think critically.


·       Previous work experience preferred.


 


OTHER REQUIREMENTS 


·        Prolonged periods standing and working outdoors.


·        Must be able to lift, up to 50 pounds at times.
