Job Description - Linen EVS Assistant

Description

A linen assistant provides clean and fresh linen for patient comfort and care through the laundry process. The linen assistant is responsible for duties including, but not limited to, sorting, washing, drying, and folding linen. Additional duties include monitoringl the inventory of linen throughout the hospital, collecting soiled linen, and delivering clean linen to departments. The linen assistant will also assist with the linen drop off and check in process, which occurs twice per week. Will also assist in housekeeping and required to fulfill housekeeping duties when assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows all Standards of Behavior
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information
  • Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures and assist with their review and updates.
  • Communicates in an appropriate, professional, and effective manner with manager and coworkers. 
  • Operates designated laundry equipment as directed, including washers and dryers.
  • Proper sorting of linen, as instructed.
  • Ensures linen is clean and presentable.
  • Collects soiled linen from each department twice per day.
  • Delivers and replenishes linen in each department twice per day. 
  • Assisting with trash and shred pick up throughout the facility.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality is a must.
  • Clearly identifies and responds to internal and external customer needs and requests.
  • Works to exceed customer satisfaction in all areas as appropriate.
  • Generates confidence and a sense of value in customer interactions.
  • Ability to perform housekeeping duties and function independently in that role.
  • Willingness and ability to perform floor maintenance duties, as assigned.

  • Attends all monthly meetings and bi-weekly huddles.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Graduation from high school is preferred.
  • Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of laundry equipment and chemicals
  • Ability to use laundry equipment.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping chemicals and supplies

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel.
  • Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Potential exposure to chemicals and communicable diseases
  • Hot temperatures and humidity may occur in summer months.
  • Hazards include water on the floor. 
  • The noise level in the environment can be very loud when machinery is in use.

Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows how to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
