Job Description - Linux Automation Systems Engineer - with Growth Opportunities

PURPOSE
This position is responsible for configuring, integrating, and maintaining the Linux server infrastructure.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Linux server management including OS, application, and database installation and configuration.
  • Advanced scripting utilizing PowerShell, Batch, Bash, Perl, Python, etc. to include creating custom tools and workflows.
  • Proficient with system automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and/or Terraform.
  • Familiarity managing Delinea/Centrify.
  • Ability to remediate and patch systems utilizing Satellite.
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, group policy, DHCP, DNS, LDAP.
  • Familiar with VMWare vSphere 6 and 7 with advanced RHEL (v 6,7, and 8) and CentOS.
  • Virtual template creation and management.
  • Proven problem-solving skills 
  • Must be highly organized and possess excellent customer service skills. 
  • Ability to drive overlapping projects, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Must pass pre-employment background check. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Day to day administration of end users, Linux servers and storage as well as surrounding infrastructure on premise and in Azure.
  • Regular application installations and configurations as well as maintenance and development of scripts and tools for automation.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues as they arise.
  • Staying familiar with new/updated versions of applications and methods used for managing Linux infrastructure and operating systems.
  • Working with and troubleshooting all the following tools/protocols, including, but not limited to: SSH, DNS, FTP, HTTP(S), telnet, SFTP, NTP, TCP, LDAP, etc.
  • Work with RHEL 6 and 7 as well as CentOS in a mixed Linux/Windows environment.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for retail stores, distribution centers, and corporate office.
  • Provide technical input for the design, development, installation, configuration, and patching activities across Linux server infrastructure. 
  • Maintain server standards, device provisioning, and deployment as well as document new and existing processes and standards.
  • Partner with operations engineers to design, develop and implement improvements to existing infrastructure to increase system stability and performance. 
  • Design, install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems and system management tools.
  • Perform and assist in monitoring and testing application performance for potential bottlenecks, identifying possible solutions, and work with developers to implement found fixes.
  • Maintain relationships with new and existing vendors.
  • Identify opportunities for automation as well as design, develop, and implement custom automation scripts to improve efficiency and scale across the enterprise.
  • Develop and maintain a strong team relationship with other members of the company.
  • Provide effective communication regarding issues, objectives, initiatives, and performance to assist in planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.

    WORKING CONDITIONS (TRAVEL, HOURS, ENVIRONMENT)

    • Limited travel required including air and car travel.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.


    PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
    Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
