Job Description - Liturgy Coordinator


 Under the leadership of the Office of Worship, the Liturgy Coordinator is responsible for the preparation and celebration of Diocesan liturgical and ritual celebrations. This position provides leadership support in the planning, scheduling, and execution of all liturgies presided by the Bishop, as well as the recruitment, formation, and coordination of diocesan volunteer ministers in areas of liturgy according to the vision of the Second Vatican Council. Assumes administrative responsibilities relevant to the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Pastoral Liturgist as Person of Faith.

As a pastoral minister, the Liturgy Coordinator has the responsibility to nurture his or her own faith and to nurture the faith of others. 

Liturgical Minister 

Under the leadership of the Director of Worship, the responsibility of the Liturgy Coordinator involves various duties as a liturgical minister. 

• Plans the liturgies in collaboration with the Bishop, Master of Ceremonies, Worship Director, priests, and deacons. 

• Secures proper copyrights for all worship participation aids. 

• Collaborates and consults with the various diocesan secretariats, Cathedral, Basilica, schools, and parish ministry leaders in the planning and execution of liturgical celebrations. 

• Communicates the appropriate church environment for all the liturgical seasons according to the specifications of the Church documents. 

• Coordinates for the provision of materials needed for worship such as worship aids and audiovisual projections; coordinates with Communications secretariat and prepares AV projections as needed. 

Pastoral Minister as Educator 

The pastoral minister is to educate the diocese and parish in areas of liturgy according to the vision of the Second Vatican Council. 

• Helps the local church grow in its understanding of the beauty of the liturgy. 

• Ensures liturgical worship conforms to the norms and laws of the Church, and diocese. 

• Provides input for organizations in matters of liturgical understanding, sensitivity, and planning. 

• Serves as a resource person in liturgy for the religious education programs. 

• Coordinates and supervises the formation and training programs for parish liturgical ministers. 

• Fosters parishioner full and active participation in the liturgical life of a parish. 

Pastoral Minister as Administrator 

• Contributes to the development of liturgical policies and norms in conjunction with the Bishop, and the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, taking into consideration national guidelines. 

• Develops and maintains tracking systems and checklists for annual and routine liturgies and events. 

• Assists in the planning, preparation, and execution (i.e. volunteer recruitment, event coordination and post event feedback) of diocesan sponsored conferences, workshops or events. 

• Contributes to the formulation of the office’s annual budget. 

• Prepares liturgical texts for all diocesan liturgies. 

• Maintains current records of all liturgical ministers. 

• Maintains library of current liturgical resources. 

• Oversee the inventory, handling, and use of diocesan vestments, vessels, linens. 

• Maintains inventory and orders liturgical supplies and material (i.e. books, periodicals, etc.) for parishes, invoices, collects and codes receivables. 


Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CATHOLIC FAITH 

Practice of the Catholic faith is required. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese. 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s degree in Sacramental Theology, Scripture, Pastoral Studies, Music, or a certification in Liturgical studies or certification in a diocesan liturgical certification program for liturgical ministry; minimum 5 years’ experience in liturgical functions; thorough knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy and liturgical preparation, principles of catechesis, fundamental theology, Scripture, and sacramental theology. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

· A high level of organizational and interpersonal skills is required. Attention to detail and working well with others is also required. 

· Ability to read and analyze routine correspondence and compose appropriate responses. 

· Ability to respond effectively to common inquiries from internal and external sources. 

· Ability to effectively present reports and information to constituents. 

· Ability to maintain a calming presence amid competing demands for action. 

· Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 and Canva software, and a working knowledge of music notation software.

· Musical ability, with proficiency in voice, piano, or another instrument is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and on weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
