Job Description - LNG Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician

The Towanda Liquefied Natural Gas Facility produces 50,000 gallons of natural gas per day and features a storage capacity of 180,000 gallons. Serving industrial and commercial operators as well as local gas distribution utilities, it delivers an economical and dependable energy supply. This facility is vital to supporting the Northeast's energy demands with cost-effective and reliable solutions.


Opportunity Summary


The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician at Towanda LNG, will operate and maintain liquified natural gas (LNG) equipment and systems.  This role involves monitoring, inspecting, troubleshooting, and performing routine maintenance on turbines and auxiliary equipment while ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements. The position provides hands-on experience in diagnostics, emergency response, and operational excellence, contributing directly to the plant’s high-performance operations and energy reliability.


Primary Functions




  • Perform board (control room) operations, field operations, and maintenance activities to support safe and reliable LNG plant performance




  • Execute skilled mechanical, electrical, electronic, and instrumentation work involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of plant equipment (pumps, engines, motors, fans, hoists, compressors, piping, valves, filters, traps, meters, etc.)




  • Take and document equipment readings; identify abnormal readings or alarms and take prescribed corrective actions, including activating emergency systems when required




  • Operate all plant systems and equipment associated with liquefaction, vaporization, trucking, and standby modes




  • Work independently to maintain proper plant operation, facility security, and emergency readiness; promptly notify supervision of abnormal conditions




  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and process flow diagrams (PFDs)




  • Calibrate pneumatic and electronic instrumentation and record all results per calibration procedures




  • Complete work orders for inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance activities




  • Maintain spare parts inventory and report shortages or re-order needs




  • Perform general facility upkeep including cleaning, painting, pipe fitting, carpentry, masonry, and insulation tasks




  • Work rotating shifts during vaporization, liquefaction, trucking, and other operational periods




  • Complete required company-sponsored training and maintain necessary certifications




  • Perform other duties as assigned

Working Relationships


The O&M Technician reports to the O&M Shift Supervisor.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions


Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.


Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.


Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.


Fitness for Duty


All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.


Work Schedule


The O&M Technician works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, typically 7 days on and 7 days off, alternating between day and night shifts to support continuous 24/7 operations and ensure seamless shift transitions. Shift schedules may be adjusted as needed based on dispatch requirements. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.


Compensation


Initial starting compensation will range from $32.00 to 48.88 per hour, plus an annual performance bonus.


Core Qualifications and Skills


We are looking for a skilled Technician with experience in power generation operations and maintenance, coupled with a proven ability to contribute effectively to team success and consistently meet performance standards.



  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. An Associate degree in power plant technology, chemistry, or a related technical field, or engineering is preferred. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

  • Industrial trade training associated with valve maintenance and repair, reciprocating/screw compressors, PLC automation systems, electrical motors, low/medium voltage circuits desired.

  • Previous work experience in LNG or industrial gases

  • Must possess working knowledge in operation and maintenance of centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, centrifugal pumps, stand-by electric generators, industrial engines, pneumatic and electronic controls, high output gas fired equipment, and all other process plant equipment

  • Thorough understanding of safety protocols, environmental regulations, Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, OSHA requirements, and hazardous materials handling.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, maintenance personnel, contractors, and vendors, supporting planned outages, corrective maintenance, and timely completion of work to optimize plant performance.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a foundation in technical writing, communication, and mathematical aptitude to convey operational and maintenance concepts clearly.

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
