Job Description - Loan Assistant

Description

Job Purpose

In this role, you will work with the loan officers in gathering necessary information for all types of loans. You will also be responsible for warmly greeting customers in person and over the phone, responding to customer inquiries, assisting customers with account servicing and closing certain types of loans. To ensure success as a loan assistant, you should have business acumen and the ability to complete various complex lending tasks accurately and efficiently. Ultimately, a top-notch loan assistant should be a highly organized and process-driven individual with the ability to handle confidential information.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Warmly and politely greet all customers entering the bank or over the phone.
  • Perform professional administrative support in answering telephones, taking messages and providing information related to loan status, payoff, balances, etc.
  • Accurately and efficiently supports the lending function by preparing loan worksheets and ordering required documentation, such as credit reports, title and lien searches, surveys and title insurance commitments.
  • Assembles loan packages for loan officer’s submission to loan committee. 
  • Managing and updating loan files to ensure completeness and maintaining a digital record of all loan files, documents and applicant information.
  • Preparation of letters, memos and any necessary correspondence. 
  • Coordinating daily tasks with the loan department and loan operations department team to optimize workflow.
  • Record collateral and financial information to promptly clear exceptions.
  • Maintain loan renewals for loan officers and contact any past due customers.
  • At officer’s direction, reviews and determines appropriate action related to insufficient funds items, immediate credit decisions and check cashing approval.
  • Process the department's return mail weekly.
  • Support other loan assistants as needed.
  • Complete all required and job-specific training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year of banking experience is required, Lending Assistant experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer, commercial and real estate loan documentation and lending processes.
  • Ability to demonstrate compliance with all bank policies, procedures and regulations for assigned job functions to minimize risk.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to perform tasks with accuracy and efficiency in mind.
  • Excellent analytical skills and financial prowess.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong team player with solid communication skills.
  • High levels of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.

Working Conditions

  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Physical Requirements

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
