Job Description - Local News Chief Meteorologist

KCRA 3, the NBC affiliate in Sacramento and a Hearst Television station, has an opening for a Chief Meteorologist. We are looking for someone who knows the science of forecasting and can tell a relatable weather story to keep viewers safe and informed in Northern California. You will be an accurate forecaster, convey appropriate tone for the situation, summarize complicated information, and be able to use the latest technology. You will also lead a team of meteorologists and will demonstrate and communicate our coverage plan to producers, anchors, reporters, video journalists, and our digital team. You will report to the News Director.ResponsibilitiesGet viewers ready with accurate, compelling, and understandable weather forecastsProvide immediate weather information before and during severe weather eventProvide content on our TV, digital, OTT and social platformsUse all the latest technology available to us, to tell an intriguing weather storyDeploy in the field during weather eventsSummarize facts and content for broadcastsExecute active live shots and tell compelling storiesCommunicate weather presentation vision with our team of anchors, reporters, video journalists, and production staffProduce and publish content to online platformsWill coach meteorologists and guide them to success through feedback opportunitiesWill appear at public events and community educational outreach opportunitiesRequirements10 to 20 years of experience as a meteorologist or chief meteorologistIn-depth knowledge of weather science and forecastingDynamic on-air presence with a conversational weather presentationKnowledgeable about how to interpret and translate high-powered radar dataProficient in using the latest graphics and technologyNWA and CBM seals are a plusBilingual experience is a plusRelated military experience will be consideredSalaryThe estimated base salary range for this role is between $170,000 and $220,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands and conditions, including geographic location where the work will be performed, and other factors permitted by law.
