Logistics Operations Manager

Inside the Role

This position will act as the Logistics Operations Manager that supports all Detroit Transmission/Axle business. This role has primary responsibility to monitor and streamline logistics operations, resolve issues, and improve communication. Coordinates inbound and outbound logistical operations, including inventory management, warehousing and transportation to ensure sufficient supply of goods and products. Controls the commercial impact of the complete range of activities from receiving, locating and dispatching, sourcing, purchasing and optimizing inventory levels. Administers an effective system that meets the organization's inventory control needs through efficient transportation of raw materials, component parts and/or finished goods.

Position offers a starting salary range of $128,000 – $164,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you Drive

• Maintain logistic flow by planning, reviewing, and directing the work of employees

• Consult with appropriate departmental managers to gather feedback and determine resolutions of problems concerning logistic processes and inventory accuracy

• Develop goals and objectives and implement plans to ensure adherence to specified standards

• Develop supervisor and team leader management skills

• Monitor manpower needs and revise manpower requirements when appropriate

• Meet logistic efficiency standards on a regular basis regarding logistical operations, inventory management, warehousing, and transportation

• Generate and implement cost improvement projects

• Develop and implement annual expenses and capital budget program and periodically review budget performance to maintain expenditures at appropriate levels

• Plan and assign work, instruct in methods and procedures, check and approve work, handle complaints and grievances, and provide work guidance for employees

• Recommend and make final decisions for hiring and promotions, disciplinary actions and reclassifications

• Make responsible on-the-spot decisions regarding efficient transportation, including receiving, shipping, warehousing of production material

• Manages a functional group supporting the production of Transmissions, Front-, and Rear Axles

• Make continuous improvement in logistical operations to safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale

• Leads the business in meeting expectations of our customers, both in quality and schedule attainment

• Maintaining effective relationship with UAW

Knowledge you should bring (required):

• Knowledge of or ability to apply Lean/Continuous improvement tools and principles
• Prior experience leading teams or projects to achieve elevated levels of performance and engagement in a manufacturing or logistics setting is required
• Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and diplomacy to exchange information, manage sensitive issues, and translate, simplify, and clarify information for employees is required
• Ability to effectively communicate to a diverse group of employees, leadership and stakeholders
• Familiarity with general plant operations and equipment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills

Exceptional Candidates Might Have (preferred):

• Previous experience in managing both hourly and salaried personnel preferred
• Strong knowledge of logistics principles, transportation modes, warehouse processes, and inventory management.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, etc.).
