Job Description - Long Covid -19 Educator

Organization Background


 


The Center for African Immigrants and Refugees Organization (CAIRO) is committed to enhancing social justice and equity for African immigrants and refugees in Oregon and Central Minnesota. We do this through community organizing, collaborative leadership, and service advocacy. Our vision is a society where children, youth, and families thrive in supportive communities that honor their cultural heritage and through lived experiences.


 


Position Summary


 


The Long COVID-19 Educator will provide culturally responsive outreach, education, and support services to African immigrant and refugee communities impacted by Long COVID. This role is essential in raising awareness, addressing misinformation, connecting clients to vital resources, and supporting the long-term health and well-being of those affected.


 


The Educator will also play a key role in administering surveys, leading community health workshops, distributing educational materials, and helping clients navigate services related to health, employment, transportation, and social support.


 


This is a Temporary, non-exempt position through June 30, 2025. The general schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, 32 hours a week. 


 


 


Key Responsibilities


 


Community Health Education & Engagement


 


·        Raise awareness about Long COVID symptoms and its impact on physical and mental health.


·        Deliver educational materials such as flyers and brochures in collaboration with healthcare professionals.


·        Develop culturally and linguistically appropriate materials to support affected individuals.


·        Educate community members on symptom tracking, lifestyle management, and when to seek medical care.


 


Outreach & Navigation


 


·        Conduct outreach through events, site visits, social media, and home visits.


·        Connect families with appropriate health, employment, and educational support services.


·        Build and maintain a referral network with other service providers for Long COVID care and recovery.


 


Data Collection & Program Improvement


 


·        Assist in the development and administration of surveys to assess Long COVID community needs.


·        Distribute and track incentives (e.g., Visa gift cards) to encourage participation in assessments.


·        Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in accordance with MDH guidelines.


 


Advocacy & Collaboration


 


·        Provide regular updates on community needs, outreach efforts, and program outcomes.


·        Collaborate with faith leaders, community organizations, and stakeholders to extend outreach and build trust.


 


Required Qualifications


 


·        Experience working with immigrant and refugee communities, particularly African populations.


·        Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural competency skills.


·        An ability to translate complex health information into understandable and accessible formats.


·        Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing community needs.


·        Fluent in English; fluency in Somali, Amharic, Swahili, or another African language preferred.


·        Must be comfortable with technology and data collection (Google Suite, survey tools, etc.)


·        Must pass a background check.


 


Preferred Qualifications


 


·        Community Health Worker (CHW) certification or equivalent experience.


·        Knowledge of COVID-19 and Long COVID impacts in underserved communities.


·        Experience in health education, social work, or public health.


 


Work Environment


 


·        Community-based; includes home visits, public events, and office work.


·        Occasional evening or weekend hours for events or community engagement.


·        Travel within the St. Cloud area is required. Mileage reimbursement provided.


 


 


Salary & Benefits


 


$23- 25.00 per Hour Per Hour, depending on experience and qualifications
