This is a hands-on, field-facing role for a specialist who can quickly assess risk, identify compliance gaps, and implement practical solutions that reduce exposure to fines, penalties, and operational disruption. This role is expected to quickly identify and remediate compliance gaps, particularly in California, to reduce regulatory exposure and potential penalties. The role partners closely with Regional Managers, store leadership, HR, and Operations to ensure consistent execution of safety and environmental standards across all locations.

Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, hazardous materials regulations, and applicable environmental laws
Evaluate hazardous materials handling, storage, disposal, and documentation practices at the store level
Investigate workplace incidents and environmental concerns, focusing on root cause, corrective action, and prevention
Partner with Regional Managers and store leadership to correct compliance gaps and reinforce accountability
Support preparation for regulatory inspections and assist in responding to agency inquiries or findings
Develop and deliver practical training for managers on safety, hazardous materials handling, and compliance expectations
Monitor trends and provide recommendations to reduce risk, improve compliance, and strengthen field execution
Support development and rollout of safety and environmental policies, procedures, and SOPs

Qualifications

3–5 years of experience in safety, environmental compliance, EHS, or hazardous materials management in a multi-site or field-based environment
Strong working knowledge of OSHA standards and workplace safety practices
Experience with hazardous materials regulations, inspections, or environmental compliance programs
Ability to conduct audits, interpret regulations, and implement corrective actions in operational settings
Ability to influence field leadership and drive compliance across multiple locations

Preferred Experience

Experience working with California environmental regulations, including Certified Unified Program Agency requirements
Background in hazardous materials management, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or related field
Experience supporting inspections, enforcement, or regulatory compliance in a business or government setting
Experience in automotive, service, industrial, or similar operational environments
Military leadership or safety-related experience is valued, particularly in roles involving operational risk management and compliance

Certifications (Preferred)

OSHA 30 strongly preferred
HAZWOPER or similar environmental or safety certification preferred
ASP, CSP, or other recognized safety certifications are a plus

Skills

Strong ability to assess risk and take decisive action in the field
Clear and effective communication with both field teams and regulatory stakeholders
High level of accountability, integrity, and sound judgment
Organized, detail-oriented, and execution-focused

Work Environment

Frequent travel across AQL locations
Field-based role with regular site inspections and operational engagement
Ability to respond to urgent safety or environmental matters as needed

Compensation

$80,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience
