Job Description - Lower School Assistant Principal

Summary


Maranatha Christian Academy (MCA) is a private school serving Grades Pre-kindergarten through 12 in Brooklyn Park, MN. Our vision is for every Maranatha student to be highly educated, Christ-centered, and biblically anchored world changers. 


 


MCA has an opening for a lower school assistant principal for the 2026-27 school year. This position is responsible for providing educational and behavioral support to the lower school students. 


 


Essential Duties (other duties as assigned)


• Promote and strengthen a Christ-centered lower school culture where students are known, supported, and encouraged to grow academically, socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and spiritually.


• Partner with the principal and teachers to support academic programming, including reviewing student assessment data, monitoring academic progress, identifying learning gaps, and helping determine appropriate interventions, enrichment, or classroom supports.


• Support teachers in responding to academic concerns by helping analyze student needs, recommending instructional strategies, assisting with student support plans, and communicating with families when appropriate.


• Assist with the implementation of academic support systems, including progress monitoring, intervention follow-up, differentiated support, executive functioning support, and coordination with learning support staff when needed. • Research and help implement best practices, programs, and processes that support the whole child, including academic growth, student behavior, social-emotional development, spiritual formation, and classroom engagement. • Serve as a primary support for teachers when student academic, behavioral, or social-emotional concerns arise, helping identify next steps and involving the principal when needed.


• Monitor student attendance, tardiness, detention reports, probationary status, behavioral contracts, and student support plans to identify patterns and ensure consistent follow-up.


• Oversee and address student behavior, dress code, and disciplinary concerns with a restorative, developmentally appropriate, and biblically grounded approach.


• Help develop lower school chapel programming, student leadership opportunities, and community-building initiatives that strengthen the spiritual and relational life of the lower school.


• Supervise students as needed and assist with daily school operations, transitions, arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, events, and other areas that support a safe and orderly learning environment.



Supervisory Responsibilities                                            


Indirectly supervises teachers in the school faculty, specifically related to classroom management and adherence to policy. Responsibilities include coaching teachers in classroom management, indirectly appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Qualifications


Preferred Master of Arts in Educational Leadership or similar degree; or three to five years of related experience and Principal Licensure
