Job Description - Lower School Librarian

Description

Landon School is committed to the ethical, intellectual, and personal development of boys. We challenge and inspire them to think deeply, individually, and broadly; to live with respect and honor; and to grow into healthy, well-rounded men of integrity and character who seek to make a positive difference in the world around them.

Landon is a diverse community committed to creating an environment where boys are encouraged to strive, reach, and endeavor towards becoming their best selves. This is done through our teacher-coach-mentor model of instruction, our caring and dedicated faculty, and a robust co-curricular program.

Landon seeks a dynamic and forward-thinking Lower School Librarian to manage and enrich the library experience for students in grades 3-6. This role blends traditional library responsibilities with innovative educational practices to create a vibrant, inclusive, and interactive learning environment.  The ideal candidate will inspire a love for reading, support digital literacy, and collaborate with educators to enhance student learning. Collaboration with other members of the Applied Technology and Innovation team will be key to a successful program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Library Administrator: Create a welcoming library space, develop the library's collection, and utilize Follett Destiny to  track inventory, catalog resources, and manage circulation.
  • Collaborate with the school’s STEM coordinator and Ed Tech team to create mutually supporting curricula and projects.
  • Foster a love of reading through engaging library programming, such as author visits, reading contests and challenges,      literacy-themed celebrations, book talks, reading clubs, and library displays.
  • Instructional Support and Faculty Collaboration: Teach information literacy skills, research skills, and digital citizenship, and      collaborate with teachers to develop lesson plans and support students during the research process.
  • Guide students and staff in effectively using online databases, e-books, audiobooks and other digital library resources.
  • Teaching responsibilities: Teach Lower School Library Classes (Grades 3-6) including skills such as citations, web searches, and      using databases.
  • Participate in grade-level meetings and curriculum planning sessions to ensure library services support instructional goals.
  • Stay informed about educational technology trends and introduce digital tools and platforms that enhance learning and research.

Requirements

  • Experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of diverse children’s literature and current trends in publishing for grades 3-6.
  • Experience creating engaging library programming and events.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) is helpful but not required.
  • Landon Teacher Coach Mentors will be required to coach two seasons of Lower School Sports
