Job Description - LPN Unit Manager - Day Shift

Shifts: 7am-5pm (varies) Days: Monday-Friday Weekends: on-call rotation (every 3rd or 4th weekend) Compensation: LPN = $28-31 an hour Location: 5837 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville TN 37919 . Your Role in the Organization The primary purpose of this position is to direct, oversee, and monitor the nursing services provided on a specific unit. The Unit Manager shall support, educate, evaluate, and provide clinical expertise to Health Services. This position also assists and may, as needed perform the day-to-day nursing activities on that unit and perhaps throughout the facility. All duties will be performed according to local, state, and federal rules, regulations and guidelines that govern our state to ensure that the highest quality of resident care is delivered. Essential Elements of your Role Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and Nurse Management Team to direct daily functions of nursing department in accordance facility policy and government regulation.
Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, and calm demeanor on their unit.
Provides leadership and mentorship on and off the unit to include compliance with facility policy, including but not limited to care delivery, infection control, safety, medication management, adequate supplies and equipment, proper attendance, adequate staffing levels, timely performance evaluations, proper dress code, and educational training.
Ensures that all licensed nurses comply written protocols for the administration, storage and control of medications and supplies. Monitors medication passes and treatments, and reviews medication administration records for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to stop order policies.
Makes daily rounds of the nursing unit to ensure that all nursing service team members are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards; monitors nursing care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly and with kindness, dignity and respect; reviews nurses’ notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive for the nursing care being provided and that they reflect that the care plan is being followed and the residents’ response to care.
Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective orientation program for staff; participates in developing, planning, and scheduling of in-services for staff training.
Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Nursing as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
Ensures that the nursing service work areas and all resident care rooms, treatment and common areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. Reports all occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infection materials and hazardous chemicals and any other work injuries in accordance with the facilities policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.
Participates in the implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program and in various committees within the facility (i.e., Level of Living, Utilization Review, Care Team Managers, etc.) and in Level of Living reviews. Participates in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
Provides direct nursing care as necessary; starts IVs, obtain sputum, urine, and other specimens for labs; monitors and obtains vital signs.
Keeps the Inter-Disciplinary team informed of the status of residents. Participates with other Inter-Disciplinary Team members, the residents and their family members in the care conference process to develop, implement, evaluate and update the residents’ comprehensive plan of care.
Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge of residents as needed.
Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of residents’ acute care plans. Reviews resident care plans for appropriate resident goals, problems, interventions and revisions based on nursing needs. Assists in the evaluation of each resident’s physical and emotional status. Consults with the residents, family members, and physicians in planning the resident’s care, treatment and rehabilitation as necessary.
Assists the MDS team in planning, scheduling and revising the MDS.
Reviews residents’ medical and nursing treatments to ensure that they are provided in accordance with the residents’ care plans and wishes.
Reports and assists in the investigation of any abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property as evidenced by documentation. Reviews complaints and grievances made by a resident and makes a written/oral report indicating the actions taken to resolve the issues. Preferred Requirements 2 years of experience as a supervisor and/or clinical manager in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility.
A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an LPN or RN in the state of TN.
