Job Description - Lube / Mechanic Apprentice


This is an entry-level developmental position intended for someone who wants to build a career in mechanical and equipment repair. The individual will work directly with experienced mechanics while learning preventative maintenance, inspections, basic troubleshooting, repairs, and proper shop practices. The role will also include general shop, yard, and equipment upkeep as needed. The expectation is that the employee will progressively develop their mechanical skills and take on more advanced maintenance and repair responsibilities over time.

  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist mechanics with preventative maintenance on trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and other fleet assets.
  • Perform oil changes, filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks, and other routine service work.
  • Inspect equipment for leaks, damage, worn components, loose hardware, and other maintenance concerns.
  • Assist with tire changes, batteries, lights, brakes, hoses, belts, and other basic mechanical repairs.
  • Learn mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures under the direction of experienced mechanics.
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance on trailers and utility equipment.
  • Learn proper use of hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, jacks, lifts, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain accurate communication regarding equipment condition and completed maintenance.
  • Clean and organize tools, parts, workstations, and shop areas.
  • Maintain a clean and safe shop environment.
  • Assist with washing and preparing trucks, trailers, and equipment for service.
  • Perform general physical labor around the shop and equipment yard when needed.
  • Assist with groundskeeping and general facility maintenance as required.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize parts, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and established maintenance procedures.
  • Perform additional fleet and shop duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and genuine interest in becoming a mechanic.
  • Willingness to learn from experienced technicians and accept hands-on instruction.
  • Basic familiarity with hand tools and power tools preferred.
  • Previous automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, agricultural, construction, or shop experience is a plus.
  • Welding or fabrication experience is a significant plus.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physical work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, climb, push, pull, and work in and around equipment.
  • Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working around trucks, trailers, construction equipment, grease, dirt, noise, and normal shop conditions.
