Job Description - Lube Technician Full Time

Position Goal 


The Automotive Lube Technician is responsible for performing routine vehicle maintenance, primarily focused on oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid top-offs. This position involves inspecting vehicles for additional service requirements, advising the service team, and ensuring customer satisfaction by providing efficient and reliable service. Responsible for adhering to Graham Auto Repair (GAR) purpose, vision, essentials and core values.



Position Responsibilities



  • Perform oil and filter changes in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Conduct digital vehicle inspections (DVI) and identify any potential safety or maintenance issues on all vehicles.

  • Rotate tires and check tire pressure, adjusting as needed.

  • Refill or replace fluids, including transmission, brake, and windshield washer fluids.

  • Inspect and replace air filters, wiper blades, and other minor parts.

  • Responsible for keeping the bay area, shop area, and lunchroom clean, organized and safe at all times. 

  • Provide exceptional customer service by explaining vehicle conditions and maintenance requirements when necessary.

  • Adhere to company policies, safety protocols, and manufacturer specifications.

  • Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials such as oil, filters, and other chemicals.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of automotive maintenance services and procedures.



  • Perform work as outlined on work order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with shop and factory standards. Follow set guidelines by using the correct procedures, manuals, diagrams and safety protocols. 

  • Must comply with safety regulations, PPE and shop procedures

  • Report any unsafe or negligent actions or repairs to the Production Manager immediately. 

  • Test-drive vehicles before and after to test components and systems, using diagnostic tools and special service equipment

  • Keep a professional appearance

  • Vacuum, clean windows and pickle vehicles.

  • Must complete 40 hours of additional training per year. 

  • Assists with other duties as assigned 



Position Requirements and Qualifications 



  • Six (6) months of prior automotive experience repair or automotive education/training required.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of vehicle systems required. 

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. 



  • Must obtain 609 certification within 30 days of hire. 

  • Must be able to pass at least one test ASE certification within one year. 

  • Must take 2 ASE tests per year until A1- A8 are obtained



  • Must have your own tools.

  • Must have strong problem solving skills. 

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to follow instructions and strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

  • Ability to use power and hand tools.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Great organizational skills.



Physical & Mental Demands & Working Conditions


Must be able to move and stand for long periods of time. Repetitive movements such as bending, reaching, stretching, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling. Must have hand and eye coordination. Must have excellent manual dexterity and fine motor skills. Ability to reach above head for long periods of time. Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with odors present. Must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must be able to maintain focus in a busy workshop environment. 



Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
