6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Shifts are alternating to meet staffing needs. Will be required to work every other weekend.
Location: Lubbock, TX *6-Month Minimum Contract Assignment with option to extend ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Licensed Vocational Nurse performs advanced vocational nursing work. Provides for the care, treatment, and general welfare of individuals who have intellectual disabilities, complex medical, mental health and/or behavioral health issues.
Provide care for patients – manage medication administration and treatments; provide medication education and complete documentation.
Perform computer data entry – Receive full training.
Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and performs Nursing duties within the assigned areas and assigned shift.
Performs basic and complex nursing tasks to fulfill the health needs of the most medically fragile individuals, including the collection of lab work and other health screenings.
Keeps informed of and follows all agency, facility and unit policies and procedures.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Licensed to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact)
Current CPR certification
Valid Photo ID
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1 year, but preferably 2+ years as a direct care nurse
Competent in advanced skills such as gastrostomy tubes/enteral feedings, Foley catheters, tracheostomies, etc
Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; of health care laws and regulations; of medical diagnoses and procedures; of accepted medical treatment patterns; of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures; of program regulations and procedures.
Must be able to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities and staff members.
Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures and techniques, and the principles and processes used in providing appropriate patient care.
Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e., CPR, and ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergency situations.
Skills in using reasoning to identify problems and in considering an appropriate resolution of situations.
Skill in the operation of computers and applicable computer software.
Skill in the care and treatment of patients.
Ability to prepare and maintain records and to use an electronic health record system once trained.
Must have strength and flexibility to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
