Job Description - Machine Operator



Full-time


Description

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 5:00AM-1:00PM

Location: Port Washington, WI

Machine Operators set up, adjust and operate equipment including loading raw materials into feeder mechanisms, adjusting speeds, and clearing jams or other malfunctions. Machine Operators must be able to interpret blueprints and perform precise measurements with tape measures, calipers and micrometers. Machine Operators may operate a variety of different machinery or equipment including the Cutoff Lathe, Bender, Saws, Presses and/or Burn Table depending on production demand. Attention to detail, problem solving, adaptability and a strong work ethic are essential in our fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Operate all equipment in a safe manner and use safe work habits. Maintain a safe and clean working environment including complying with safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Follow specifications or procedures for set-up, programming and machine operation using blueprints, instructions and machine knowledge.
  • Mount, install, align and secure tools, attachments and fixtures using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Select, measure, assemble and set machine tooling including replacement of tooling when necessary.
  • Either work closely with Material Handlers or obtain jobs and materials utilizing the Dispatch List and a forklift.
  • Load proper materials into machinery utilizing cranes when necessary.  
  • Watch gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure machinery is working properly. Notify a supervisor promptly in the event a machine is not properly working.
  • Conduct tests and first run inspections of products to evaluate quality and tolerance. 
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to supervisor.
  • Accurately clock job transactions into ERP software.
  • Willingness to cross train and perform the work of other job tasks when necessary.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years prior experience operating industrial machinery. 
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and ability to interpret job orders and blueprints preferred.
  • Prior experience operating forklifts, jib cranes and overhead cranes preferred.
  • Basic mathematical skills and ability to perform precise measurements using a tape measure, caliper and micrometer.
  • Basic computer skills to accurately gather and input data from computer systems and record job transactions.
  • Capability to lift 50 lbs with regularity and up to 70 lbs occasionally.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and reach above the shoulders. Regularly required to sit and move from place to place. Will frequently talk and listen, used hands to finger, handle or touch. Ability to see both closely and at a distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions, units of measurement, and metric conversions.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs with regularity and up to 70 lbs occasionally.  
  • Operate and/or use forklifts, cranes, hoists, slings, grinders, fixtures and instruments of measurements.
  • Ability to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to gather and input information on a computer.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Exposure to noise, sparks, smoke, fumes, and chemicals in a production environment.
  • Willingness to train or work during hours outside of regularly scheduled shift as necessary.
  • Perform minor welding and tacking while operating the Bender.
