POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead
Machine Operator reports to the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor and will work closely with them, all Machine Operators, and Production leadership to ensure equipment is running effectively. This position is responsible for ensuring the correct setup, optimization, and completion of minor maintenance tasks on all equipment utilized in production. The goal is to have >95% uptime and minimize set up time.
The Lead Machine Operator is also responsible for training other machine operators on effective set-up and the operation of all production equipment and processes. The lead will monitor the lines and equipment to assure that they are operating in the most efficient way possible in terms of optimizing UPM and maintaining quality standards.
The Lead Machine Operator’s commitment to maintaining high standards in equipment setup efforts directly contributes to achieving departmental KPIs focused on reducing product rejection rates and increasing production line output.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Machine Operator Team Oversight
- Support and guide the work of all Machine Operators, including task direction and redirection for complete focus EMF responsibilities
- Respond promptly to any issues that Machine Operators are unable to resolve in a timely manner; request additional support from Mechanics as needed
- Monitor inventory and request EMF supply purchases for items used in the production area when needed
- Provide ongoing training of Machine Operators of all levels, as well as cross training of production team members upon request of EMF Supervisor or Director
- Under the direction of the Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor, update documentation of settings and parameters for the standardization of equipment setup and use; distribute updated guides to Machine Operator upon update
- Act as the primary point of contact for Production Supervisors and Leads to request Maintenance Mechanic support when needed
- Learn how to use maintenance software/App (Fiix); work closely with the department supervisor to complete the tasks that he/she was assigned to in a timely manner and close the work orders once they are completed
- Input data onto EMF spreadsheet tracking production bulk waste daily; share out monthly trends to identified process partners (sanitation, production, EMF)
- Ensure Machine Operator compliance of all safety procedures in the production area
- Monitor good housekeeping and proper organization of Machine Operators in production work area
General Departmental Duties & Other
- Responsible for efficient setup of bottle and tube filling lines in accordance with production plan
- Communicate and coordinate line setup and line status with Production Leads and Production Supervisors
- Ensure equipment is in safe and optimal working order
- Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to equipment, in order to eliminate downtime and maintain safety
- Escalate equipment issues to Maintenance Technician or Maintenance Supervisor whenever further equipment troubleshooting or repairs are needed
- Communicate to the Maintenance Supervisor for needed supplies, including replacement parts, in a timely manner
- Implement LOTO (Lockout Tagout) procedures on equipment immediately if unsafe conditions are identified
- Support preventative maintenance programs tasks, including daily cleaning of equipment such as rollers
- Be conscious of and follow all quality control/quality assurance procedures. Work with lab personnel as required and necessary
- Note changeover times, lengths, and events throughout shift to be added to the EMF end-of-shift report. Communicate time sensitive or urgent shift events in Slack
- Utilize Electric Pallet Jacks to support production requests when needed
Safety, Security and Other
- Follow all safety procedures including chemical and material handling, Safety Data Sheet instructions, LOTO protocols, and all safety programs
- Support a safe working environment by reporting any unsafe conditions or observed, unsafe conduct
- Attend EMF, Quality, and Production trainings on equipment, safety, and proper sanitation
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when working with products, chemicals or any other related materials as mandated by production floor protocols and Safety Data Sheets
- Perform other tasks and projects as directed by the manager
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical and repair skills or aptitude
- Ability to achieve and maintain Forklift certification for Electric Pallet Jack use
- Verbal English language skills sufficient for position training and day-to-day communication
- Bilingual English and Spanish language skills required; ability to effectively read and write/type in English and effectively communicate verbally in Spanish
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, and multiplication, to calculate and support optimization rates and units per minute (UPM)
- The ability to work independently and within a team
- Ability to grasp, lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and walk throughout shift
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Previous automated Machine Operator experience or Production Line/Manufacturing work experience required

GENERAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on a production floor or warehouse environment, and occasionally outside of campus buildings. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts sometimes in high, or precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, temperature extremes, fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high.
