As a Machine Operator – Seco Slitter, you will set up and operate specialized equipment used to slit, shear, and level refractory metal materials to customer specifications. You’ll use measurements, calculations, and your own judgment to determine how material should be processed while maximizing quality and material efficiency.

What You Will Do

You will set up and operate slitting, shearing, and leveling equipment to process finished orders and in-process material used by other manufacturing operations.

Your work will include:

• Set up the slitter to required dimensions using measurements and conversion calculations
• Operate slitting equipment to process material according to order specifications
• Coil or stack processed material and move it to the appropriate operation
• Set up and operate equipment to level finished orders and in-process material
• Shear material according to customer and production specifications
• Plan how orders should be cut to maximize material efficiency
• Check material gauge and surface condition before processing begins
• Visually inspect finished work and verify that material meets established quality standards
• Use micrometers and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and product quality
• Identify unacceptable material and communicate concerns to your supervisor or Quality
• Maintain accurate production records and material information
• Perform equipment setups requiring accurate calculations for close-tolerance output
• Operate lift and material-handling equipment to safely move and position material
• Perform preventive maintenance and routine equipment inspections
• Monitor the condition of slitter knives, spacers, fingers, pads, and other operating components
• Coordinate with supervisors and Maintenance when tooling or equipment requires repair or replacement
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area following 6S practices
• Support other production activities as manufacturing needs require

About You

You understand that running production equipment involves more than pushing a button. Good operators understand their material, know what the finished product should look like, make accurate setup decisions, and recognize when something is not right.

You may be a strong fit if you bring:

• A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Manufacturing or industrial production experience
• Strong basic math skills, including fractions and decimals
• Experience using micrometers or other precision measuring tools
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with industrial equipment
• The ability to perform accurate calculations for equipment setup and close-tolerance work
• Strong attention to detail and product quality
• The ability to follow work orders, specifications, and established procedures
• Sound judgment when evaluating material and finished product quality
• A commitment to safe work practices and proper equipment operation
• The ability to work independently while contributing to the broader production team

One to two years of experience in a sheet metal, metals manufacturing, or similar industrial environment is a plus.

Success in this role means producing material accurately and efficiently while protecting quality, equipment, and the value of the material being processed.

You will be successful when:

• Slit, sheared, and leveled material consistently meets customer and production specifications
• Equipment setups and calculations produce accurate, close-tolerance results
• Material is processed efficiently to maximize usable product and minimize unnecessary scrap
• Material gauge and surface quality are verified before processing
• Quality concerns are identified before unacceptable material moves further through production
• Production records are accurate and complete
• Equipment is operated safely and properly cared for
• Preventive maintenance needs are identified before they become equipment failures
• Processed material reaches the correct downstream operation when needed
• Your work area remains clean, safe, and organized

• Sheet metal or coil processing

• Forklifts, lifts, or other material-handling equipment
• Equipment setup and changeovers
• Preventive maintenance and basic equipment troubleshooting
• Material optimization and scrap reduction
• 6S, Lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement practices

This Is Hands-On Manufacturing Work

This position works directly with industrial machinery, metal materials, and material-handling equipment on the manufacturing floor.

You should be comfortable working around moving machinery, heat, chemicals, and other conditions associated with an active manufacturing environment. The role requires a moderate level of physical activity and the consistent use of required personal protective equipment.

You’ll be expected to stay engaged with the process—from checking the incoming material and calculating the setup to monitoring equipment, inspecting the finished product, and getting that material where it needs to go next.
