Job Description - Machinist

ABOUT THE ROLE:

James Fisher Technologies (JFT) manufactures precision components for defense and nuclear programs. We operate under NQA-1 and 10CFR50 Appendix B quality standards - a regulated environment where process discipline and documentation are requirements, not suggestions. We are seeking an experienced Machinist II to perform setup and operation of Haas CNC mills and lathes in support of active production schedules. Everyone at JFT has the chance to forge their own career in an environment that values initiative, persistence, respect, curiosity, and passion. The anticipated closing date for this posting is 7/30/26 and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform complete setups and operations on Haas CNC mills and lathes

  • Edit and verify Mastercam programs at the machine to ensure part accuracy

  • Conduct dimensional inspections using precision measurement instruments

  • Maintain accurate work order documentation and quality records

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T callouts

  • Mentor Level I machinists and support shop-floor process discipline

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience: 3–5 years of professional CNC setup and operation

  • Software: Mastercam proficiency - editing and verifying programs, not operator-only

  • Equipment: Haas CNC experience - mills, lathes, or both

  • Technical: Ability to read engineering drawings and apply GD&T without supervision

REPORTING TO: Shop Foreman

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Strength and Stamina: The job may involve lifting and moving parts or materials, typically up to 50lbs. The ability to stand for long periods (8+ hours) is required.

Manual Dexterity: Precise hand movements are necessary for handling tools, making adjustments to machines and operating a computer.

Visual Acuity: Good eyesight, including close vision and depth perception, is important for detailed work and inspecting finished parts.

Mobility: Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching is required, along with the ability to maneuver around machinery and equipment.

Coordination: The role requires good hand-eye coordination to operate machines safely and effectively.

Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Machine and fabrication shop environment around equipment such as water jet tables, lathes, milling machines and press brakes. Welding operations are often taking place nearby. This job requires adherence to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.

ACCESS TO RESTRICTED INFORMATION: This role requires immediate and routine access to restricted information under federal law. Under applicable DOE orders and client contracts, non-U.S. citizens (including lawful permanent residents) may require an approved DOE Foreign National Visit/Assignment (FNVA) before starting work. Because this position requires immediate access, JFT cannot initiate or sponsor new FNVA processes. Hiring is contingent on the candidate's eligibility to access all required information and facilities as of the start date. All offers are subject to applicable licensing, training, and other client or government requirements. JFT does not sponsor employment visas. Hiring decisions are based solely on access requirements and project timing, not on citizenship, immigration status, or national origin. JFT is an equal opportunity employer.

JFT participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 Information to confirm you are authorized to work in the U.S.

A criminal history background check will be obtained pre-employment.
