Position Summary:

AAA United States, Inc. is seeking a skilled Machinist-Class A to works within a team environment to install, repair, and align shipboard equipment while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. 

Essential Functions:

  • Install shipboard equipment safely and productively in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Disassemble, diagnose faults, repair, and reassemble mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Mark and measure installations to precise tolerances using calibrated equipment.
  • Safely rig equipment while adhering to all OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Perform inspections, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Follow established work procedures and contribute to a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Mentor and assist in developing the skills of fellow team members.
  • Promote innovation and efficiency improvements within the department.
  • Support waste reduction initiatives by controlling materials and consumables.
  • Assist in maintaining department equipment and ensuring its proper care and use.
  • Contribute actively toward the team goal of delivering vessels on time and to the highest quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area with tools and equipment properly stored and protected.
  • Adhere to company guidelines for both on-site and off-site assignments.
  • Perform work compliant with NAVSEA Standard Items when applicable.
  • Travel to off-site work locations as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant trade experience, two (2) years of shipbuilding experience, comparable apprenticeship training, or one (1) year experience as a B-Class Outside Machinist.
  • Demonstrated expertise in shaft alignment techniques, including the use of laser alignment systems and dial indicators.
  • Working knowledge of machining procedures and mechanical systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with ship terminology.
  • Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings and job specifications.
  • Ability to safely operate and set up fixed and portable machinery to meet precision tolerances.
  • Competence in reading and understanding written instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to use the metric system.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow verbal and written directions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for temporary off-site assignments, following company policy.
