Machinist - Lathe Specialist

Position Summary

Auger Fabrication is seeking an experienced Machinist - Lathe Specialist to join our growing manufacturing team. This position is primarily responsible for setting up and operating lathes to produce high-quality precision components used in the manufacturing of augers, feeder screws, shafts, and related products.

The ideal candidate is a skilled machinist who can independently perform complete machine setups, interpret engineering drawings, maintain close tolerances, and inspect their own work while contributing to a safe and productive work environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathes to machine precision components.


• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.


• Select tooling, establish work offsets, and adjust machine settings to produce quality parts.


• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.


• Edit machine programs and offsets as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.


• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and dimensional issues.


• Maintain quality standards while meeting production schedules.


• Complete production and quality documentation accurately.


• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.


• Assist with other machining operations as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of manual lathe machining experience preferred.


• Experience performing complete machine setups with minimal supervision.


• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.


• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and indicators.


• Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, workholding, feeds, and speeds.


• Ability to machine precision parts while maintaining close tolerances.


• Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.


• Dependable, self-motivated, and committed to producing quality work.


• Experience operating manual machine tools is a plus.


• Willingness to assist in other machining areas as business needs require.
