Position Overview
The Maintenance Worker provides an on-going assessment and upkeep for Head Start buildings and facilities. H/She performs routine building maintenance tasks including, but not limited to: carpentry, electrical, heating/air, and plumbing.
Physical Demands
Work involves frequent requirements to move easily about the facility and grounds. Work requires the ability to climb a ladder and frequently work above shoulder height. Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, etc. in order to maintain the facilities. Must be able to use both hands for frequent grasping, gripping, and turning items or equipment. Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue.
Must be able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
Must be able to lift and frequently carry items weighing 50 pounds or more.
Mental Demands
Must have the ability to read, write, and speak clearly. Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be customer service oriented. Must have the ability to use common tools and to understand and follow directions.
Special Demands
Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must have a valid drivers’ license and a satisfactory driving record.
Requirements
Education
High School diploma or GED required.
Experience
Previous maintenance experience preferred. Experience with inventory, requisition requests, and general maintenance reports preferred. Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry is preferred.
