Description

Located in Rochester, NY and founded in 1916, G&H | GS Optics specializes in the custom design and manufacture of precision polymer optics for use in the biomedical, healthcare diagnostics, machine vision and analytical instrument markets, as well as military and civilian night-vision and visible-range sighting applications. In addition to the highly automated injection molding process, it has well established in-house capabilities to provide custom designed diamond turned and injection molded prototypes, thin film anti reflective and reflective coatings and integrated optical assembly solutions. 

We are seeking a hands-on Facilities/Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing the facilities and critical production equipment within our industrial manufacturing plant. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting skills and experience with Plastic Injection Molding Machines, CNC equipment, and vacuum deposition coating systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production machines, including injection molding machines, CNCs, vacuum coating chambers, temperature control units, and chillers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components to ensure minimal production downtime.
  • Maintain HVAC systems, perform light plumbing work, and ensure utilities are operating efficiently.
  • Work with 3-phase electrical systems up to 480V in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Perform general maintenance on building infrastructure including painting, carpentry, office moves, and storage organization.
  • Maintain facility grounds including snow removal, salting, and general outdoor upkeep.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules in collaboration with production staff.
  • Support safety and security initiatives and ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the maintenance work area and throughout the facility.

Requirements

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in electrical systems, hydraulics, or pneumatics.
  • Experience with industrial robots and automated machinery.
  • Prior maintenance experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions (indoor/outdoor, heat/cold).
  • Comfortable working with a variety of industrial tools and machinery.
  • Must supply personal basic hand tools; specialty tools will be provided.
