Merritt Academy is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to be responsible, under the direction of the Director of Facilities, for overseeing and responding to daily service needs of the Foundation schools. Working closely with the Facilities Director, this individual will ensure that the Foundation schools are maintained in a safe, clean, professional, and enjoyable environment.  

The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Notify Management of any safety issues that are on the property
• Keep track of and complete work orders as assigned
• Read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Assist with set up for school events and functions
• Attend all special events convened by school administration, as specified by the supervisor
• Develop an understanding of campus electrical and telephone wiring, HVAC systems, and plumbing systems and how they work
• Repairs, adjustments, inspects, and monitors facilities-related equipment
• Cleaning of campus areas including parking lots, hallways, and playgrounds
• General landscaping
• Perform classroom cleanings as needed
• Assist with monthly fire and safety drills, Annual inspections and testing of fire safety equipment
• Assist with snow and debris removal during inclement weather to ensure the schools can open on time and maintain a safe environment for our students and staff
• Perform routine preventive maintenance
• Participate in the maintenance of all Vehicles
• Provide back-up for bus driving service

Requirements

In order to be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements, including:

• Possess valid driver’s license and good driving record, CDL license preferred
• High school or vocational school diploma
• General knowledge of construction/maintenance trades; Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Painting is a plus
• Skilled in using hand tools and power tools
• Lifting, pushing, pulling, moving of equipment and machinery up to 75 lbs. is frequently required
• Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Pass pre-employment screenings.
