Job Description - Maintenance Assistant


 

  POSITION DESCRIPTION

                                            

JOB TITLE:  Facilities/Maintenance Asst.                       SALARY RANGE:       7

            

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO:                                 WORK STATION:

Transportation/Facilities Manager

                                          

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Maintenance assistant is responsible for the condition and repair of the Head Start Centers including plumbing, electrical and general appearance.  

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with ensuring that the buildings are properly maintained and in compliance with all safety regulations.
  2. Assist with ensuring that buildings meet all state child care regulations and federal performance standards.  
  3. Perform repair and maintenance on buildings, storage facilities and equipment program wide. 
  4. Perform remodels, refurbishing and repair of interior office spaces, classrooms and storage units.
  5. Move office furniture, fixtures and equipment within and between sites to support staffing changes, relocations, remodels and program expansion.
  6. Perform routine maintenance of all heating and ventilation systems. 
  7. Perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs and maintenance.
  8. Assist with monitoring site interiors and exteriors for safety hazards. 
  9. Perform maintenance in order to keep outdoor areas from safety hazards, trash, weeds and other foreign materials.
  10. Perform regular maintenance and assist with the upkeep of outside areas, including lawns, landscaped beds, playgrounds and parking lots, to include weeding, mowing, landscape, trash and litter removal and anything else required to keep sites clean and neat. 
  11. Perform repair, maintenance, upkeep, moving and transport of playground structures.
  12. Assist with ensuring all records are maintained on each Head Start building and submitted to the Central Office.
  13. Ensure maintenance requests are submitted for all work performed as directed.
  14. Documents, records, and informs staff of observations and information they have been privy to and which might affect a child in the Head Start program. 
  15. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. 
  16. Become familiar with SCMCAA’s Personnel Policy manual and follow policies.
  17. Reports to work area ready to begin work at the assigned time.
  18. Perform daily inspections of assigned equipment to insure it is in safe driving condition.
  19. Participate in Head Start training and career development activities.
  20. Perform additional related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  21. Understand responsibility of being a mandated reporter for Child Abuse and Neglect. Will contact the Professional Development Manager immediately if suspect abuse or neglect of any child.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  2. Knowledge of all applicable building codes and safety regulations and procedures.
  3. Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws governing facilities for licensed day care facilities, including fire/safety and sanitation.
  4. Ability to perform basic construction, preventative maintenance such as structure, electrical and plumbing jobs.
  1. Ability to keep accurate records of materials and supplies.
  1. Ability to maintain purpose, goals and objectives of the Head Start program.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively.
  3. Exceptional organizational skills, and ability to meet strict deadlines with attention to detail and accuracy. To efficiently determine priorities of a complex work load.
  4. Possess valid license.
  5. Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  6. Obtain initial medical exam and TB assessment within 30 days of employment. Complete a medical exam and TB assessment every five years following initial employment.
  7. Pass background screen, child abuse/neglect screen, drug screen, and be subject to random drug testing.
