 Job Summary

Discovery Living has been serving adults with intellectual disabilities for over 40 years and sets the gold standard for service provision in the area of disability services. We are currently hiring for our Maintenance Associate role. As the Maintenance Associate, your primary responsibility will be to inspect, transport, and maintain company vehicles and related equipment. You will also perform a variety of maintenance tasks at each of our residential homes and administrative offices, as needed.

The position entail time dedicated to traveling across our 35 locations in Linn County; other duties that can be completed at your location of choice. The position is supervised by the Executive Director and, in their absence, the Director of Finance.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain vehicle maintenance schedules.
  • Schedule and attend vehicle appointments.
  • Issue and maintain vehicle gas cards by location.
  • Assess fleet needs and secure additional vehicles as needed.
  • Dispose of vehicles as needed.
  • Assist with vehicle accident-related activities.
  • Assist with snow removal and home maintenance projects as requested.
  • Coordinate or perform general interior and exterior household repairs.
  • Coordinate or perform plumbing, electrical, carpentry, appliance repairs.
  • General upkeep of garages and home exteriors.
  • Other related maintenance duties that may arise.
  • Work with specialty vendors to complete projects.
  • Be willing to work evening, weekend, or other hours as dictated by agency need.

Special consideration will be afforded individuals who have:

1) A practical familiarity with fleet management.

2) Experience in home maintenance projects.


Requirements

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of one year of Maintenance-based experience is strongly preferred. Must have a valid Iowa driver's license, meet company insurability standards, and be eligible for employment following required background checks.

Competencies

Must be able to organize work and complete assignments with minimal supervision while adhering to established safety protocols. Must be able to respond to stressful situations and work a flexible schedule as dictated by organizational needs. Must be physically able to perform repairs and lift up to 60 pounds. Must be able to relate well to members, staff, volunteers, neighbors, and others in the community.
