Job Description - MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR

Description

The Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing all maintenance activities within the facility. This role ensures the proper functioning of all mechanical, electrical, and operational systems that support the crushing and extraction process. The Maintenance Coordinator will focus on minimizing downtime, ensuring safe operations, and implementing preventive maintenance programs to enhance equipment longevity and performance. This role requires in-depth knowledge of industrial maintenance practices.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Safety
  • Direct/designate resources to conduct safety, maintenance, and compliance inspections.
  • Be an active member of Process Safety Management (PSM). Maintain proper documentation required meeting plant PSM, environmental, and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain standards above minimum compliance with all governing laws and regulations. 
  • Directs SDSP’s safety programs to protect employees and contractors against harm and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Formulate and suggest work safety standards and enforce procedures. Risk prevention areas include hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions. 

2. People

  • Oversee maintenance team activity and performance including ensuring employees are qualified, trained, and scheduled to meet the needs of the business while maintaining a safe and positive environment and addressing any performance, and/or employee relations concerns.
  • Provide leadership that promotes high performing teamwork, personal accountability, cooperation, and career development.
  • Train associates within the department on proper techniques for installation, repair, and proper tool selections required to perform maintenance jobs. Provide SDSP management staff ongoing maintenance training as needed.

3. Maintenance and Reliability

  • Direct and plan the daily maintenance and reliability activities at SDSP. This includes setting daily, monthly, and annual goals.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Establish and manage a preventive maintenance schedule for all plant equipment, ensuring regular inspections and maintenance to reduce downtime and enhance efficiency. Utilize CMMS to track, log, and schedule maintenance tasks and maintain equipment records. 
  • Develop and plan the annual shutdown strategies for the facility. This will include short term down times as well as annual summer “turn around” times.
  • Equipment Repairs & Troubleshooting: Oversee repair and troubleshooting for essential plant equipment, such as crushers, conveyors, pumps, motors, and boilers. Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions, while leading the maintenance team effectively.
  • Inventory & Spare Parts Management: Manage the procurement and inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials for plant equipment maintenance. Maintain an organized system to track usage and ensure availability of critical parts, reducing downtime.
  • Budgeting & Cost Control: Oversee the maintenance department budget, controlling expenses for labor, parts, equipment, and external services. Identify and implement cost-saving measures while maintaining operational reliability and safety.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Track and analyze equipment performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Regularly report maintenance metrics, focusing on key performance areas.

4. Communicate and Collaborate

  • Practice clear and timely communication with internal and external customers and 3rd party contractors while advising the General Manager of any employee plant, or equipment issues affecting operations. 
  • Work closely with HR to recruit, onboard and train new team members and lead high functioning teams ready to learn, adapt and respond to new challenges by establishing performance standards and encourage participation in training and development programs.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with all internal departments and supporting teams, including processing, refinery, commercial and transportation departments, HR and finance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Trade School certificate or equivalent
  • 5+ years of proven supervisory experience including developing and motivating individuals and teams.
  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance training and 1 year of grain/ag processing or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of regulations pertaining to plant operations including (OSHA, PSM, NFPA 36, NFPA 61, 2/16/01 National Electric Code, National Boiler Codes, EPA, SQF).
  • Effective and professional communication through speaking, writing, and listening.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills with ability to prioritize, adapt and act.
  • Must be able to diagnose plant operation problems as related to maintenance influences.
  • Must possess negotiating skills and purchasing capabilities.
  • This position requires “on-call” status; on call will be required on a scheduled weekly routine

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must Possess the Ability to Do the Following Frequently:

  • Bend, squat, and kneel
  • Stand, walk, climb ladders/stairs
  • Push/Pull/Carry/Lift 25- 50lbs.

Must Possess the Ability to Do the Following Occasionally:

  • Carry/lift over 50lbs.
  • crawl
  • use fine finger movements
