Job Description - Maintenance Group Supervisor, Port Department

About the Role

 

Under the guidance of the Chief Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate will oversee the housekeeping maintenance team and manage several facility maintenance contracts.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise in-house construction and repairs, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and maintenance of berths.
  • Respond to maintenance service requests from tenants and facility staff.
  • Review drawings and contract specifications.
  • Manage maintenance contracts related to recycling, air monitor maintenance, and refuse.
  • Maintain CDL records and schedule CDL and Respirator Fit Test appointments for staff.
  • Serve as a back-up for other field supervisors during absences or emergencies.
  • Incumbent will also be the primary supervisor for snow coverage on his/her assigned shift.

 

Additional Information

  • This position is a Permanent Assignment.
  • This position is located at 260 Kellog Street, New Jersey Marine Terminals, and the regular work schedule is Monday to Friday on C Tour (2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.).
  • Selected incumbent will be required to undergo a thorough Federal Security Background investigation and obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) to work in a maritime environment as required by Department of Homeland Security

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview, must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.

     

    Desired Qualifications

     

    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Maximo software applications, and document/drawing reader and sharing programs.
    • Demonstrated experience in reading and interpreting contract documents, drawings, and technical manuals.
    • Demonstrated experience in timely review of engineering plans and time management skills.
    • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and collaborative and negotiating skills and experience interacting with PA staff at various levels, external agencies, contractors, and vendors.
    • Demonstrated experience and knowledge providing oversight, leadership, and direction to unionized staff to accomplish goals and tasks.
    • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
    • Demonstrated experience managing/coordinating multiple projects simultaneously involving the construction, maintenance, SEMAC etc.
    • Proven experience in facility snow management operations.
    • Strong knowledge of maintenance equipment, tools, work methods, and terminology across various trades; understanding of trade-specific safety practices; ability to interpret and plan work from drawings and blueprints.
    • Knowledge of or ability to learn, Port Authority operating policies and procedures, with a focus on administration, timekeeping, labor relations and PA procurement.
    • Familiarity with railroad operations and operating standard
    • A valid commercial driver's license.

     

     

    Selection Process
