African Safari Wildlife Park, one of the top family destinations in the Shores & Islands Ohio region, is entering a period of significant growth and investment. We’re looking for a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Lead who takes pride in keeping our Park safe, clean, functional, and looking its best.
The Maintenance Lead works closely with the Director of Facilities and Maintenance to coordinate daily maintenance, repairs, grounds, landscaping, and janitorial needs. This is a working lead position—you’ll provide direction to staff while also working alongside the team to get the job done.
Experience in farming, property maintenance, construction, landscaping, mechanical work, or the skilled trades would be a great fit for this position. Dependability, problem-solving, organization, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed are key to success.
Reports To: Director of Facilities and Maintenance
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
Complete and help manage daily work orders, projects, and Monthly To-Do Lists.
Perform general repairs and preventative maintenance throughout the Park.
Maintain a working knowledge of water lines, wells, septic systems, electrical panels, furnaces, boilers, generators, cameras, and AC systems.
Complete perimeter fence, smoke detector, lighting, and other required inspections.
Maintain sidewalks, buildings, animal areas, equipment, and other Park infrastructure.
Keep the Maintenance Shop, Maintenance Barn, tools, and equipment clean and organized.
Maintain accurate vehicle, equipment, generator, inspection, and maintenance records.
Grounds & Landscaping
Mow, trim, seed, water, and maintain lawns and grassy areas.
Plant and maintain landscaping, flower beds, and planters.
Perform weeding, pruning, pest control, and general grounds upkeep.
Maintain water fountains and outdoor features.
Keep Park grounds clean, safe, and guest-ready.
Janitorial
Lead and provide daily direction to Janitorial and Grounds staff.
Ensure restrooms, offices, guest areas, and other facilities are clean and properly supplied.
Coordinate trash removal and general Park cleanliness.
Staff Leadership
Assist the Director of Facilities and Maintenance with coordinating daily maintenance activities, projects, and department priorities.
Assist with ordering and maintaining maintenance, grounds, and janitorial supplies.
Work with Maintenance staff to maintain required logs, checklists, and inspections.
General Tasks
Complete required daily reports.
Identify and report maintenance and safety concerns.
Respond to urgent maintenance needs as directed.
Work with other Park departments to support daily operations, animals, and guests.
Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude with guests and team members.
Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older and pass pre-employment screening.
Experience in maintenance, farming, construction, landscaping, mechanical work, skilled trades, or a related field preferred.
Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and maintenance equipment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot problems.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
Regular and dependable attendance.
Flexible schedule, including some weekends, holidays, and additional hours as needed.
Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand for long periods, climb ladders, kneel, stoop, crawl, bend, pull, and perform physical work.
Ability and willingness to work around animals.
