Maintenance Mechanic Lead

JOB PURPOSE:

Works in a Manufacturing environment and under direct supervision, serves as primary maintenance resource for packaging production operations. Contributes to ensuring safe working practices are followed and contributes ideas to simplify and standardize the workplace. Shares ownership in achieving world class performance and continuous improvement of production. Perform trials and tests for new products and/or packages for Site Operations or in support of the designated Cells area within the Manufacturing facility. Responsible for assisting in the preparation, equipment set up, and execution of line trials. Documents test results as directed by the Engineering staff. Accountable for helping to achieve strategies and goals thru training staff within the Cells structure for becoming the world class, low cost/high quality producer of choice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. 
   Responsible for Material Productivity, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), MTBF (Mean Time between Failure), by the utilization of the data provided thru MKBS. Troubleshoots, maintains, fabricates, supports and assists with repairs to production floor equipment.Will provide adequate training for Cell members, responsible for all process improvement projects and meeting all defined production/quality standards, Company KPI’s (Key Performance Indicator’s) to include, but are not limited to, safety, quality, cost and service.


2. 
   Monitors duties of production personnel within all Cells by leading and motivating team members, including temporary personnel, applying Company leadership principles to ensure production quality and safety standards are met in accordance of MK Policies and Standard Operation Procedures. Maintains workplace organization and cleanliness practices. Leads team building Kaizen event for problem solving by using scientific lean methodology.


3. 
   Documents successful equipment settings and tests results to be used by Site Engineering and Operations staff in establishing their set-up procedures. Success measured by achievement of established Ramp Up plan (time it takes to achieve line rate, staffing, and quality standards). Evaluates quality and assists in troubleshooting operational issues. Follows a defined trigger-point system to ensure the appropriate level of urgency is communicated to management concerning production issues. Interacts with Package Engineering, Scheduling, QA/QC Labs, Inventory Control, Engineering Support, Packaging, and Warehouse personnel to expedite solutions to problems. 


4. Assists with set-ups, sanitization verification, daily start up, tuning, repair of packaging machinery in accordance with production requirements to ensure proper operation of machinery and supports other Cell’s Engineering Tech and Production Line Technicians by performing changeovers. Follows safety precautions to prevent product contamination and injury to self and others. Assist with Maintenance development program, developing critical parts inventory and assisting with maintenance repair. 


5. Contributes to the completion of activities and milestones associated with new product launches where failure to achieve results may have significant financial impact to the Company. Communicates project status on an on-going basis in the Corporate Engineering meetings and to appropriate departments with associated involvement in the project. Assists Engineers with line trials by ensuring change parts are at the line, aids in setting up the line with the maintenance staff, performs trial, and resolves issues. 

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: 5 years of experience in Manufacturing or an Engineering related department. Must have knowledge of manufacturing processes, manufacturing systems and the new product development process.

1. 
   Must have technical knowledge and mechanical aptitude to perform complex start up, debugging, and repairs of packaging machinery, as demonstrated by successful trouble shooting and problem solving techniques typically acquired through 5+ years of production maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility.


2. 
   Ability to read and understand technical instructions and reference materials in order to interpret and apply Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions; perform practical applications of mathematical calculations to solve specific mechanical problems; and use many types of equipment. 


3. Must have the ability to communicate effectively in order to interface with multiple internal customers as well as equipment vendors, contractors, and others to meet project requirements. Must have the ability to utilize courtesy and tact in interactions with department and Company personnel in the exchange of information and resolution of problems. 


4. Must have a working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Manages time in a computerized maintenance management system (ex. JDE)


5. Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, deadline oriented, forward thinking, multi-tasked, well organized, and have strong attention to detail.


6. 
   Must be able to stoop, crouch, kneel, and occasionally move up to 60 lbs. in order to start up, repair, and debug packaging machinery.


7. 
   Must have manual dexterity to manipulate and assemble small objects and pieces of machinery.


8. 
   Incumbent must demonstrate a safe work history.
