Job Description - Maintenance Mechanical Engineer

Position : Maintenance Mechanical Engineer

Location : Houston, TX

FLSA Status : Salaried/Exempt

Reports To : Manufacturing Engineering Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

: Responsible for ensuring that the plant's systems and equipment are functioning properly and efficiently with a focus on mechanical integrity and reliability. Responsibilities include planning, designing, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and improving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems. Coordinates with other engineers, technicians, operators, and managers to optimize the plant's performance and meet the production goals and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

:

•Develop and implement maintenance plans to ensure the safety of operations, evaluating and recommending new technologies to improve efficiency and productivity.

•Applies industrial, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering methodologies and technical knowledge to lead manufacturing equipment design analyses and continuous improvements applying Lean methodology and Kaizen tools.

•Leverages industrial engineering competencies to drive Design Failure Mode Analyses, understanding root causes of quality and manufacturing problems, and applies sustainable changes.

•Provide analysis of equipment and process performance data in support of developing continual improvement plans as it relates to improving the efficiency of the maintenance organization, improved asset reliability, and optimization of plant costs.

•Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout.

•Develop knowledge in plant mechanical equipment and become a subject matter expert.

•Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify the root cause of equipment failures/breakdowns, develop a plan to correct problems, and implement the necessary corrective actions to eliminate failures.

•Maintain the mechanical integrity program following good engineering practices.

•Review and prepare maintenance work procedures and skills development/training.

•Prepare and manage budgets, contracts, and reports for engineering projects and design improvements managing cost reduction and savings activities consistent with plant goals.

•Supervise 3-4 direct report; provide technical support and guidance to staff and contractors on engineering matters ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, regulations, and policies while driving change.

•Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations throughout the design and manufacturing process.

•Maintain accurate documentation including design records, bill of materials, and engineering change orders.

•Participate in site health, environmental, PSM, and safety activities.

NECESSARY SKILLS, BACKGROUND & COMPENTENCIES

:

Strong self-motivation and desire to work in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities.
Demonstrate strong communication (verbal/written) skills.
Experience managing a team of professionals/technicians and participating on cross functional teams.

•Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices and ability to uses various tools, software and equipment related to the plant's systems and processes.

•Ability to multi-task, analyze data, troubleshoot, and solve complex problems through analysis and propose and implement appropriate countermeasures based on timing, quality, and cost.
Ability to communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with different stakeholders such as engineers, technicians, operators, managers, vendors, and customers.
Self-starter/self-directed that leads with high energy and passion.

•Ability to manage projects within given time, budget and scope.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

:

•Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering.

•Minimum of 3 years of experience

•Plant maintenance and/or reliability engineering experience preferred

•Prior experience with predictive maintenance techniques such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, infrared thermography, and other performance testing would be ideal

•Knowledge/experience working with Preventative Maintenance (PM) software

•Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification preferred.

Communication and Working Relationships
Production engineering, associates, line support staff, managers, and up/down stream departments: communicate project and countermeasure needs and activity. Department and plant management: communicate project status and evaluations
Suppliers, contractors, service providers - research and communicate project specifications, installation requirements, and general activities needed to enhance operations

Decisions Expected
Follow-up on daily line performance and countermeasure areas of concern
Develop / Design strategy to achieve unit and company initiative
Leadership and development of other levels / ability to challenge
Lead and evaluate business planning (Justification for resource changes)
Determine budget and schedule activity needed to improve operations

Job Competencies
Leadership and communication capabilities to work with all levels of associates. (both written & oral).
Project management must be demonstrated with knowledge and understanding of E-Flow experience.
Ability to solve complex problems through analysis and propose / implement appropriate countermeasures.

Ability to lead and manage associates in multiple areas simultaneously.

Working Conditions
Work in production environment requiring PPE and lockout in manufacturing operations
Working near oils, cutting lubricants
Hands-on investigation and troubleshooting within equipment to countermeasure issues and to determine improvement activity
Working with hand/power tools, quality gauging and instrumentation
50% office environment/ 50% manufacturing lineside activity
Possible weekend or off-shift support as necessary
