Maintenance Supervisor

Purpose and Scope

In accord with the Mission and Vision of the Parish, the Maintenance Worker supports the parish and school by assisting the with the responsibility for: safety, maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of all buildings, grounds, furnishings, tools, equipment, and vehicles. Performs skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repairs, including, but not limited to HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, janitorial and electrical work.

Essential Job Functions

• Assures that buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Mops and vacuums floors, cleans bathrooms, washes windows, and maintains furniture that requires oiling and maintenance.

• Assures that grounds are maintained in a clean and safe manner by mowing, watering and edging lawns, clearing walkways, weeding, pruning and raking.

• Performs maintenance of all buildings when needed.

• Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC and other repair work on the facilities as needed.

• Provides other general assistance as needed through setting up the chairs and tables as requested, hauling and moving items, and picking up parts or other equipment as requested by staff.

• Assists with maintaining an inventory of supplies needed for maintenance and repairs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Ability to safely operate gas or electric powered lawn mowers, trimmers or other equipment used in landscaping and maintenance.

• Ability to safely operate power tools that may be required to make routine maintenance repairs.

• Knowledge of general care requirements for landscaping and facility maintenance.

• Must be able to perform strenuous tasks and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to lift, move and use ladders, lifts, scaffolds and other related equipment.

• Knowledge of hazards and safety methods related to maintenance and custodial operations.

• Ability to set priorities and organize work effectively.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Ability to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities.

• Must possess a valid AZ Driver’s License.

• On-call availability for emergencies.

• Bilingual, with fluency in English and Spanish is beneficial.

Minimum Qualifications

• Active, practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.

• Three years' work experience in minor repair work in carpentry, painting, electrical & plumbing.

• Successful work experience maintaining grounds, parking lots, facilities, tools and equipment.

Work Environment

• This job operates in the Parish buildings, and outside Parish grounds, indoors and outdoors throughout the entire year and all seasons.

• This role routinely uses common hand and power tools, such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers to fix, replace, or repair equipment and parts of buildings.

Physical Demands

This is largely active role, requiring standing, walking, climbing, and reaching. This would require the ability to stand for long periods or lift heavy objects as necessary.

  Job Requirements:

• Set up and break down rooms for parish and school events, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment
• Keep outdoor areas clean, including sweeping walkways and clearing trash from entryways
• Report safety hazards and needed repairs to the maintenance supervisor
• Lock and unlock doors, gates, and entry points as needed
• Observe for unauthorized access or unusual activity and report concerns
• Ensure that doors, windows, and security systems are properly secured after use
• Assist with moving equipment, unloading deliveries, and other operational tasks
• Maintain storage rooms and work carts in a clean and safe condition
• Assists with light maintenance and grounds upkeep as needed
• Support additional maintenance or janitorial tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor
• Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, sanitation, and janitorial supplies
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Strong attention to detail in maintaining campus cleanliness and organization
• Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Comfort working in various weather conditions for occasional outdoor maintenance
• Positive and service-oriented attitude when working with clergy, staff, teachers, volunteers, and parishioners
• Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for parish and school events
• Adherence to Safe Environment Training and diocesan guidelines for working in a parish and school setting
