Job Description:

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is looking for a passionate, collaborative, and detailed-oriented individual to join the Engineering/ Operations and Construction team with emphasis in team supervision. This permanent fulltime position will be Supervising, planning, directing, and coordinating agency construction projects with the operations and constructions team.

JOB DUTIES:
• Supervision of full-time team of carpentry professionals traveling the state in the performance of work, project safety, personal recommendations, leave, work schedules, and assignments.
• Oversite on State Park, Fisheries, and Wildlife building renovation projects in all phases of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work.
• Reviews construction plans and specifications/blueprints for construction projects and determines scope of work, making field measurements and preparing cost estimates. Estimates labor, time, and materials for agency projects.
• Review with field teams and identify construction, maintenance, and repair projects onsite. Confers with inhouse engineers, consultants, agency staff, and building suppliers to discuss and resolve issues such as work procedures, complaints, and/or construction problems.
• Maintain workflow and line up agency projects to assure timely completion dates of workload and ensure needed material are onsite for projects.
• Maintain inventory control of equipment fleet, project materials, and supplies to ensure all projects are adequately supplied for the work in progress.
• Solicits and reviews bids and recommends the awarding of contracts for minor construction material, equipment, and services.
• Maintains adequate records to sufficiently describe the work performed and to distribute such documentation as applicable.
• Travel will be required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, HVAC, welding, or other maintenance/construction trade, one year of experience in skilled building maintenance or a mechanical trade, and experience monitoring, coordinating, leading, or supervising the work of maintenance staff and/or projects. Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

• Knowledge of facility operational policies, budget development and administration, personnel management, administrative prerogatives and responsibilities, strategic planning, and management practices; preventative maintenance systems, variety of building, mechanical, and utility trades, principles of supervision. agency personnel rules and regulations.
   
• Ability to formulate, implement, and enforce policies, rules, and regulations, establish and maintain long range maintenance programs, and organize of maintenance department to ensure maximum efficiency; plan, organize, and effectively supervise the work of a skilled maintenance staff with various trade skills, delegate the work to others, coordinate various multi-trade functions including private contractors, and to review bid proposals.
   
• Supervise the work of others; communicate verbally and in writing; coordinate projects with others; gain cooperation, read, and interpret contracts and working drawings and specifications, apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate a positive attitude with focus on customer support internal and external, maintain good interpersonal relationships, while delivering the highest quality of service. Ability to adapt to change and a varying schedule.
