Maintenance Technician | Ripple Fiber

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician in the Worcester, MA area. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installation, testing, troubleshooting and maintaining Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) residential network. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong technical background and hands-on experience in fiber optics, customer support, and residential network infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• Install, test, troubleshoot and maintain single-mode optical fiber (SMF) in Ripple Fiber’s Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) residential network. This network incorporates innovative technologies such as a 10-gigabit symmetrical passive optical network (XGS-PON), and optical network terminals (ONTs) with Wi-Fi 6 technology.


• Install, splice, terminate, troubleshoot, and repair optical fiber systems under limited supervision.


• Safely operate and work from a company-provide bucket truck


• Conduct testing using optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs), power meters/laser sources and scopes


• Prep, tray, and splice cable ranging from single to mass optical fiber counts. Perform ring cuts


• Install demarcation enclosures, switches, and other telecom equipment


• Represent Ripple Fiber to vendors, contractors, clients, and the community

Qualifications:

• Possess and maintain a motor vehicle driving record that complies with public, safety, legal, insurance, and company guidelines


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• History of coordinating with vendors, contractors, clients, and the community


• Compliance with company controls and processes


• Record of integrity, ethical, professional, and personal standards supported by references


• Two years optical fiber installation experience, which may include:


• Pulling and terminating fiber cabling


• Experience with XGS-PON and ONT with Wi-Fi 6 technology


• Fusion splicing and terminations


• Knowledge of OTDR, light source, and power meters


• Familiarity with splice drawings and OTDR test sheets and reading traces


• Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings


• Cable prep, single and mass fusion splicing, and termination abilities


• Optical fiber test and troubleshooting abilities


• Two years residential utility installation experience


• Associate degree or comparable training in a related field


• Certification from the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) or similar trade group


• Familiarity with Google Earth and use of KML/KMZ files
