Maintenance Technician

Fair Labor Standards Act Classification: Non-Exempt

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance, responding to dispatched general maintenance calls, and troubleshooting/repairing secondary utility systems of buildings, plumbing, air-conditioning, electrical, and air systems.

Will be on an on-call rotation once every 3 weeks.

Job Responsibilities

• Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs building secondary systems pertaining to plumbing, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and electrical systems.
• Identifies and properly reports, through the work order system, all potential and existing problems encountered.
• Recommends, through the appropriate channels, any improvements and corrections to the buildings and to meet overall patient care needs. 
• Follows departmental and the organization policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to safety and security. Ensures application of codes, standards, and regulations. Reports all hazards, injury, and near injury situations. Responds to emergency situations as directed.
• Participates in the planning process for remodeling and new construction.
• Directly supports the JCAHO/Environment of Care standard through the Building Maintenance Program. This includes but is not limited to inspection of Life Safety Code items and the repair of those items utilizing National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements.

Knowledge/Experience

• Currently not sponsoring work visa.
• General knowledge and experience of specialized areas including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, welding, drywall, equipment repair. 
• Maintenance or facility maintenance experience. 
• Troubleshooting
• Construction experience
• Basic Knowledge of use and care of tools. 
• 2-3 years of progressive maintenance experience preferred
• Knowledge of applicable building codes preferred.
• Requires transportation to commute to various health center sites. Valid driver’s license required. 

Skills/Abilities

• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to read and interpret information from blueprints; schematics; and diagrams.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment.

Physical Requirements

• Able to be involved in degrees of prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping; as well as abilities of repeated bending, stooping, and squatting.
• Able to lift, push, and/or pull light to moderately heavy weight up to 20-30 pounds is a necessary function of this position.
• Able to perform duties during periods of varied and/or prolonged work hours.
• Must be able to read, write, hear, and communicate effectively in the English language by both orally and written.
