Description : The maintenance technician is responsible for performing a variety of general maintenance duties which include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, construction and painting repairs as necessary of district buildings.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of one year maintenance experience is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
Performs maintenance service or repairs in one or more skill areas, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting and plastering, machine servicing, basic electrical repairs or installations.
Performs tasks such as but not limited to changing light bulbs, installing paper dispenser units, changing filters, changing locks on doors, minor decorative maintenance and other tasks not requiring a licensed skilled trades person or journeyman.
Hangs pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required per ADA standards.
Performs outside custodial duties such as removal of leaves, dirt, clean up trash, recycling of broken branches of trees, removal of snow as needed.
Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
Operates equipment and uses tools following established safety procedures.
Corrects unsafe conditions in the area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
Inspects building exterior, playground equipment, and grounds; performs maintenance and minor repairs.
Detects and reports needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
Performs repairs to floor coverings, ceramic tile and cove base.
Is knowledgeable to address leaks, clogs or other drainage problems.
Assists with mowing and detailing of grounds.
Is able to use power washing equipment.
Uses materials, equipment and all hand tools required to complete assigned duties proficiently and safely.
Completes repairs as requested on work orders.
Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
Repairs minor irrigation issues such as replacing broken sprinkler heads and pipelines.
Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
Obtains estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed.
Moves, installs, assembles, and repairs all school furniture and equipment as needed.
Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
Install ceiling and floor materials.
Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
Recycles unused or broken furniture, boxes and clean up dumpster area as needed.
Trims trees as needed.
Uses blower to clean in front of campuses as needed.
May be required to assist with special events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures.
Ability to use hand tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver) and power tools (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill, pneumatic hammer).
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external.to the district.
Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged periods standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, pulling, pushing; heavy lifting and carrying.
Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding and around machinery with moving parts; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noise; frequent district-wide travel.
Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally and during emergencies required.
Moderate travel is required.
