Job Description - Maintenance Technician - PVD-Vacuum

Position Overview:

The PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) vacuum technician will be responsible for, but not limited to:  maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and parts replacement on vacuum systems and coating equipment to produce thin-film coatings on various materials. Additionally, the ability to perform major overhauls, corrective and preventive maintenance on all plant equipment including critical utilities, conveyor lines, laser systems, sputtering systems, inspection systems, cathodes, vacuum pumps, drive motors, actuators, cylinders, heat exchangers, furnaces, spray tool, glass washers, DI systems and VFD’s.  Provides detailed work order reports upon completion of assignment.

Essential Functions

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on PVD equipment, including vacuum pumps, coating chambers, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic components and other related systems.
  • Identify and resolve issues with vacuum systems, coating processes, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of critical plant equipment and utilities on a scheduled basis.
  • Collaborate with managers and process engineers to effectively address manufacturing interruptions, inconsistent process results, and equipment downtime. 
  • Performs daily walkthrough/inspection of the facility and equipment to identify any unusual findings and contribute to the solution.
  • Performs repairs, troubleshooting and diagnostics of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and controls components of the manufacturing equipment.
  • Monitor devices during operations to ensure the equipment is operating properly.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of all utility systems, to include, but not limited to RTU’s, chillers, air compressors, dryers, and generators.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, and equipment to perform assignments.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of the shop and tools, 5S method.
    • Ability to anticipate potential issues and initiate appropriate actions to eliminate issues.
    • Ability to perform Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) job plan.
    • Ability to verify mechanical and electrical drawings for accuracy.
    • Comfortable reading and understanding electrical schematics, diagrams and manuals.
    • Proficient at understanding reports and work instructions.
    • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies including OSHA, DOH, EPA, Fire Department, city audits, etc.
    • Attends required training and meetings.
    • Understanding of PPE requirements.
    • Understanding of LOTO procedures.
    • As a highly skilled specialist (SME) responsible for leading shutdown/rebuild activities.
    • Overseeing maintenance services performed by subcontractors.
    • Provides guidance and support regarding equipment operations.
    • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize.
    • Supports Engineering projects.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Potential shift options:
      • 5 – 8hr shifts:  6:30am – 3:00pm (Tuesday – Saturday)
      • 4 - 10hr shifts: 6:30am – 5:00pm (Wednesday - Saturday)
      • 4 - 10hr shifts: 6:30am – 5:00pm (Sunday - Wednesday)

Education & Experience

  • High School Degree or equivalent with 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Required Competencies

·       Strong understanding of Vacuum principles, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatics

·       Understanding of the PVD process, including coating materials, parameters, and equipment.

·       Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems

·       Hands-on execution of maintenance for process, utility, and facilities equipment.

·       Follow and comply with EPA, OSHA, NFPA regulations and with SOP’s and company policies.

·       Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

Compensation Range:  $85,000 - $110,000
