Summary/Objective
The Maintenance Technician contributes to the overall mission of Public Works by working as a crewmember and contributing to public health and safety. Responsible for assisting in all related maintenance administered by the relevant division.
Essential Functions
All Maintenance Technicians perform repairs using general knowledge of basic construction techniques.
Operates single/tandem axle trucks, heavy equipment, and various power/hand tools.
Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Assists in securing work areas and maintaining safe worksites by placement of appropriate warning devices while wearing special protective devices.
Answers and responds to public and staff inquiries regarding related division.
Maintains records regarding work completed.
Works with contractors and developers on repairs and maintenance.
Attends meetings and training as required.
Specific duties of Maintenance Technicians in various areas:
Street:
Repairs asphalt and concrete pavement.
Performs snow and ice removal, spring clean-up, and flood mitigation.
Traffic:
Places and repairs sign and pavement markings.
Stormwater:
Conducts inspections and field work-related to the stormwater management and stormwater drainage system.
Performs snow and ice removal, spring clean-up, flood mitigation, and levee maintenance.
Wastewater Sewer Maintenance:
Repairs and maintains pipelines, valves, fire hydrants, water services, meters, and other related equipment.
Fulfills other duties as assigned.
Responds to emergency call-backs, including seasonal emergencies.
Works overtime as needed to complete regular and seasonal work.
Assists supervisors and other departmental personnel in other projects for the benefit of the City and/or department.
Division-specific duties may include production of signs, landscaping, yard repair, meter repairs and road right-of-way (RROW) mowing.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license.
Obtain and maintain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrakes and Tanker endorsement within 90 days of employment (Class B for Traffic division).
Work Zone certification for Traffic division (Obtain within 24 months of employment).
Preferred Education and Experience
Two (2) years’ relevant experience in construction or related area.

Boot, Clothing and Vehicle Allowances, if applicable.
City issued Cell Phone, if applicable.
Retirement/Pension - City employees are required by statute to contribute to the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS). Voluntary retirement contributions are offered with Nationwide, Mission Square, and Empower KPERS 457.

Paid Holidays – 10.5 paid holidays per year plus one additional floating holiday.
Paid Vacation - 12 to 26 days per year based on years of service.

Paid Parental Leave - up to 6 weeks of paid leave.
Education Reimbursement, Professional Development. Certifications/Licensure - The City will reimburse up to $8,000 per calendar year for tuition and fees. Professional Development funds are based on department budget. Certification/licensure may be reimbursed by the City.
