Description of Work

Position is hands-on, technical work with HVAC systems, electrical, routine construction, maintenance and repair operations. This position will be housed within the Division Office and work on projects within all 14 counties in Division One, as needed. The position must develop and adjust short-term assignments, schedules, and priorities. The incumbent is a working technician and participates in the primary duties of HVAC system repairs, electrical repairs, ice-machine repairs and may also be required to assist with minor renovation work with plumbing in buildings, equipment and utility systems.. Position may have some responsibility in functions such as housekeeping, grounds and drawing working plans for minor renovations and repairs, cost estimating of repairs and other projects. The incumbent will also be participating in facility master planning, outside bid package development and implementation, reviewing and commenting on plan sheets from outside designers and contractors, monitoring and inspecting contractor construction and renovation projects, acting as liaison to local officials and/or regulatory agencies. The position normally works under general supervision to review the facilities for maintenance needs, safety hazards and perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Position will be required to assist with operations requiring work during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice removal, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. which can lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to legally operate a State vehicle.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range:  NC06 - $34,270 - $59,973

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Working knowledge of refrigeration theory: such as troubleshoot and repair refrigerant systems, including but not limited to replacing compressors and repairing refrigerant leaks
  • Demonstrated ability to operate the more common types of machine shop equipment
  • Experience inspecting buildings repairs, electrical repairs, and grounds keeping
  • Considerable knowledge of mechanical equipment and materials used for construction and mechanical operations
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret plans and specifications

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
