Job Overview

Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Services
Prepare monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly management accounts for a portfolio of clients.
Prepare accurate and timely management reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cashflow reporting.
Analyse financial performance and identify key business trends, risks and opportunities.
Understand and accurately account for stock movements, gross margins, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and financing arrangements.
Investigate unusual variances and raise queries with clients where appropriate.
Prepare annual financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders with limited assistance.
Complete and independently self-review compliance work, including workpapers and reconciliations.
Prepare budgets and basic forecasts with assistance.
Maintain strong client relationships and communicate financial information in a clear and practical manner.
Prepare workpapers in a logical and clear manner.
Manage workflow and time budgets effectively to meet deadlines.
Use live recording of time on timesheet (entering time as you go) and understand how to achieve productivity targets
Tax
Prepare all forms of income tax returns.
Prepare GST returns and assist with GST-related queries.
Calculate tax obligations for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals with limited assistance.
Conduct tax research and apply relevant legislation to client situations.
Identify tax planning opportunities and escalate more complex matters to senior team members.
Understand the interaction between financial reporting outcomes and tax obligations.

Requirements
Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in public practice accounting
Hands-on experience with New Zealand accounting and taxation
Experience preparing management accounts and annual financial statements.
Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including stock, margins, accruals and prepayments
Experience working with clients across various industries; experience with importing goods, inventory management, and goods-in-transit is preferred
Proficiency in Xero or other cloud-based accounting software
