Job Description - MANAGER, ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES OPERATIONS (DEPARTMENT OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT) - ACTIVELY RECRUITE

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Environmental 
Science, Facilities Management, Public Health or a directly related field AND

• Five (5) years of experience in environmental services, commercial janitorial management, or facilities 
operations within a healthcare, laboratory, or forensic setting or a directly related field AND

• Three (3) years of prior supervisory experience AND

• Certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Biohazard Safety Training is required.

 

Candidates who are contacted will be required to produce original required documents (e.g., current driver’s license, diploma, school transcript, certifications, etc.) listed on the Notice of Job Opportunity within five (5) days of being extended an offer, in writing, by the Bureau Chief of BHR (or designee). Candidates will be notified of how to submit required documents. 

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization. 
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of advanced commercial cleaning techniques, equipment operation, and proper handling procedures for biohazardous and infectious waste.

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental, occupational safety, infection control, and biohazard management regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requirements.

• Skill in supervising, training, and motivating a diverse team of environmental services personnel, including the ability to provide advanced expertise and guidance to team members navigating complex and non-traditional situations.

• Skill in inventory management, including the safe tracking, storage, and utilization of industrial cleaning chemicals, and supplies.

• Ability to develop, execute, and document comprehensive quality control programs, as well as inspect and enforce complex standards and regulations within this highly specialized area.

• Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism, discretion, and strict confidentiality while working in a sensitive forensic environment.

• Ability to effectively organize and adjust staff schedules to accommodate a 24/7 operational environment, staff absences, and sudden emergency requests.

• Ability to clearly communicate and enforce stringent workplace policies, including safety protocols, restricted access limits, and absolute social media / photography prohibitions.
 

Physical Requirements:
Light Work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount 
of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible 
amount, a job/occupation is rated Light Work when it requires\: (1) walking or standing to a significant degree; (2) sitting most of 
the time while pushing or pulling arm or leg controls; or (3) working at a production rate pace while constantly pushing or pulling 
materials even though the weight of the materials is negligible.

Salary Range: $96,607 - $106,635/Yearly
 
*This position requires successful completion of post-offer tests, which may include a background check, drug screen and medical examination.
