Manager - Financial Reporting

This position is eligible for teleworking, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective hire date.

Position Objective:

This position is responsible for ensuring that accurate financial records are maintained in the MTA HQ General Ledger and providing the Controller’s Office with quality data for decision-making. The incumbent will be responsible for performing monthly general ledger accounting and preparing account reconciliations and account analysis. In addition, this position is responsible for supporting the preparation of the monthly financial statements, the quarterly and year-end consolidated financial statements with footnotes, and the compilation of all agency-specific accounting reports.

Responsibilities:

• Support the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reports and consolidated financial statements, including the Management and Discussion Analysis, footnotes and fluctuation analysis, as required.
• Prepare monthly MTA and quarterly consolidated cash flow statements for inclusion in quarterly consolidated financial statements.
• Manage and prepare inter-agency reconciliations and ascertain that variances are researched and corrected through contact with other Agencies.
• Support the general ledger close by analyzing and preparing journal entries and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and timely submission of data to meet the deadlines for the issuance of quarterly financial statements.
• Review account trends, perform account analysis, and reconciliation.
• Explain variances and reconciling items, and coordinate the discussion and resolution of any discrepancies.
• Assist in the continuous review of internal controls to ensure policies and procedures are applied, and significant risks are mitigated.
• Support the internal and external audit process by resolving questions and providing requested schedules.
• Other duties as assigned include the implementation of new accounting standards and new reporting requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Must have knowledge of automated financial systems (e.g., PeopleSoft).
• Must have knowledge of monthly general ledger closing and financial reporting.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Strong work ethic and dedication to the highest work quality and job excellence.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Must have excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong understanding of financial reports and audit requirements.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Accounting, Audit, or Finance.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial systems.

The Following is/are preferred:

• Certified Public Accountant preferred.
• At least 3 years in a managerial and/or leadership role
• Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.
• Knowledge of FASB and/or GASB pronouncements and their impact on the accounting methodology and financial statement presentation.

Other Information

May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)

Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.
