Job Description - Manager Independent Agent Contracting & Commissions I
Primary Responsibilities:
Directs the independent agent contracting process, including review of contracting requirements and completion of appointments, in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
Oversees commission hierarchy and debit balance management to ensure accurate and timely administration.
Coordinates agent lifecycle activities, including level changes, hierarchy changes, appointments, administrative updates, and terminations.
Ensures contracting and commission operations comply with state regulations, company policies, and contractual obligations through audits and quality reviews.
Collaborates with marketing and field leadership to support agent recruitment, onboarding, retention, and relationship management.
Coaches and develops team members while establishing and monitoring key performance metrics, including processing accuracy, turnaround time, and agency and national marketing organization satisfaction.
Leads change management efforts related to procedures, technology enhancements, and evolving business needs while preparing team members for more complex, value-added responsibilities.
Identifies and implements process improvements and efficiency gains within contracting and commission operations.
Tracks departmental metrics, analyzes commission and contracting trends, and provides management reporting on operational performance.
Processes state appointment and vendor invoices, monitors expenses, and reports budget variances as part of the budgetary process.
Knowledge and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business, management, or related field or equivalent work experience.
3-5 years of experience working with independent agent distribution, contracting, commissions, insurance operations, or a related business function.
Actively pursues professional certifications or coursework in insurance operations, agent contracting, compliance, or related disciplines.
Working knowledge of insurance producer licensing, appointment requirements, contracting documentation, commission administration, hierarchy structures, and related state regulatory obligations.
Understanding of debit balance management processes, including commission repayment, recoupment, and roll-up decisions, with the ability to use sound judgment, discretion, and collaboration with marketing leadership and key stakeholders.
Prior experience leading, coaching, training, or coordinating the work of others in a team or project environment.
Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal partners, field leadership, agencies, and national marketing organizations while balancing service, compliance, and business priorities.
Ability to apply quality controls, documentation standards, audit practices, and operational reporting to support accurate, compliant, and efficient contracting and commission administration.
Strong organizational, prioritization, accountability, and problem-solving skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and business systems used for workflow management, reporting, contracting, commissions, or related administrative processes.
