At Northrop Grumman, you\u2019ll have the resources, support, and team to do some of the best work of your career.\n\nDetails of Engineer Manager responsibilities:\n\nThe Mechanical Engineering Manager 1 will support the Chantilly site programs in developing and managing program activities across various active projects.\n\nThe work is unique, challenging and rewarding. Most of all, it is work that makes a difference.\n\nThe functional manager will lead a hardware team consisting of Mechanical, Electrical, and Engineering support working within the Chantilly E\u0026S department. The successful candidate will lead direct report employees to accomplish organizational goals, deliver program results, and align with company policies. Specific responsibilities include coordinating programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance reviews to employees, evaluating employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and compensation, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary. The manager is responsible for periodic review, update, and definition of technical process documents\n\nThe manager will be expected to provide and perform engineering design and technical support. It is anticipated that given the size of the functional team, the split between technical and functional management duties will be on average approximately 20% functional / 80% technical on SIDE OU systems, representing our E\u0026S organization within the SIDE OU. The direct program support may include technical activities such as IPT leadership and/or any other appropriate technical function.\n\nFunctional management responsibilities include staffing support/allocation, performance and compensation management, and career goals development.\n\n * Supporting the life cycle engineering execution to include systems design, development, test/integration, and deployment/sustainment activities.\n\n * Accountable to stakeholders and program managers for project status reviews, impediments / roadblock resolution, and the overall engineering / product quality execution.\n\n * Partnering with the program management office to ensure successful execution while accounting for cost, schedule, and resources management targets.\n\n * Providing technical leadership to the execution team to ensure that best practices as well as the applicable hardware engineering processes and procedures are fully and adequately implemented.\n\n * Supporting the implementation of sustainable continuous improvement.\n\n * Supporting the development and implementation of a critical skills growth strategy focused on building world class execution teams.\n\n\n\n\nThe successful candidate should thrive in a fast-paced, quick response, work environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and possess the ability to communicate and collaborate with multiple teams across all technical levels. The candidate must be able to lead the way to maintain and develop creative solutions to complex problems. This position requires daily onsite work in Chantilly, VA\n\nBasic Qualifications for Mechanical Engineering Manager 1\n\n * Candidate must be a US Citizen.\n\n * Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of experience OR Masters degree with 3+ years of experience within relevant engineering field\n\n * Strong communication skills and the ability to lead a diverse multi-disciplinary team with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching.\n\n * Familiarity with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, MIL-STD, ASME) and regulatory requirements.\n\n * Demonstrated technical and people leadership of diverse and inclusive teams.\n\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications for Mechanical Engineering Manager 1:\n\n * Master\u2019s degree in mechanical engineering with 3+ years within a related engineering field.\n\n * Broad ISR mission area experience.\n\n * Experience managing engineering teams of 6 or more.\n\n * Experience with design modeling and drawing efforts using 3-D modeling tools.\n\n * Experience with FEA and thermal analysis software and methods.\n\n * Experience creating designs using machined steel and aluminum, sheet metal, welded fixtures, additive manufacturing/composites components and assemblies.\n\n * Experience with packaging custom electronic equipment and COTS components into enclosures including assisting in designing printed circuit boards and circuit card assemblies.\n\n * A background in test, design, and integration\n\n * Familiarity of RF Theory and RF Systems\n\n * The ability to learn new technologies quickly and independently solve problems in a fast-paced environment.\n\n * Active Security Clearance, TS/SCI\n\n * At least 80% coverage on a program in the SIDE OU.\n\n * Active U.S. government security clearance/ US Citizen. \n\n\n\n\nNorthrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment which encourages your growth and supports the mutual success of our people and our company. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
